What type of adhesive should i use to join a plastic piece to a metal piece on my 4runner? any success stories or things to avoid?

without knowing the specific application, its hard to say. But I favor JB Weld- its versatile, strong, and I've made jerry rigs with it that just keep lasting. It works on most metal and some plastic. If you can, make a test with scrap pieces of the 2 materials involved, that would be wise.
