The front diff and tranny have breathers too. Aren't you worried about water in them?
On 3rd and 4th gen 4runners, the front differential is already extended into the engine bay... i am not sure about the older 4runners. The transfer case and transmission breathers are high enough for most off-road use...they are at the top of the respective case. This is why the rear diff breather should be at the top of every off-roader's modification list.
