In this video I visit the Richmond Mine in the Ruby Hill district of central Nevada.

(Note: I had previously posted this as the "Ruby Hill Mystery Mine". Recently I was able to identify the mine and learn some of its history, thanks to a newly-published book. The book is "The Eureka & Palisade - Biggest Little Railroad In The World," by Gregory J. Maxwell. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in old-time, narrow gauge railroads, Nevada history, or the mines and mills of Eureka and Ruby Hill.)

In this brief video I visit an ancient log cabin boarding house at the site of the Latham Mine, in the Spruce Mountain district of eastern Nevada. This mine is also known as the Killie Mine.

In this video I visit the Goldome Mine and Mill, a modern abandoned mining facility in the Mojave desert.

The mill buildings have been badly vandalized. I had to use creative camera angles to minimize the extensive graffiti, and also retouched some shots. I refuse to give vandals the attention they crave.

Last Monday my wife and I took another trip up to Julian, in the mountains east of San Diego. Our route took us across Mt. Laguna via the Sunrise Highway. We were thrilled to find that it was snowing, and in the higher elevations there wa already a few inches of snow on the ground. In most years there are usually several snowstorms in the mountains each winter, but it often conflicts with our schedule so it's been several years since we've seen snowfall. (Also, most of the time the snow attracts huge crowds of tourists, which makes going there a real pain.)

On our way to the mountains we passed a nice looking white 4Runner with a rack and ladder plus other mods:

The road had recently been plowed, but still had a layer of packed snow and ice. Fortunately no one was preventing us from going through without chains. I just put into 4wd and Megaweapon handled it like a champ:

At one point we stopped long enough for me to make a brief flight with my drone (top-center of photo). The drone flew just fine and was unaffected by the falling snow:

Good photos, Ray. I always enjoy it when the SF Bay Area gets snow in the mountains, maybe once a year. Then it melts in a day or two. I know, the snow belt residents are just shaking their heads.

In late February I took a little overnight trip to the desert. After last year's super bloom, the bloom this year was pretty disappointing. I was hoping to at least see some birds and wildlife, but it seems all the critters were laying low. Still, it was nice just to get out there and enjoy the solitude and scenery. It was the first chance I've had to do any camping since my Nevada trip in July. Here are a few pics:

The westbound lanes of interstate 8 cross Devil's Canyon on a tall bridge. About a week prior to my trip, a semi-truck went off the road at high speed right before the bridge and plunged into the canyon. Sadly, the driver did not survive. I haven't been able to find out any details about the wreck. There were no skid marks on the road or any sign of braking, so I wonder if the driver fell asleep at the wheel. Anyway, I got a few drone pics of the wreckage:

Nice photos. There hasn’t been enough rain this winter in the southwest. Every desert website I’ve seen predicts just an OK flower season. But still worth a trip.
