Advice for beginner lift kit install

Hey everyone,
Im new to 4runners, and 4runner communities after just buying a 1998 Limited 4runner.

I installed subs myself and am looking to lift it for a decent price. I would like to do 2" spacers in the suspension, so I don't have to do a diff drop, in addition to the 1" body lift I would like to do to overall achieve a 3" lift to accommodate some 33" tires i'm going to buy.

Since im new to working on 4runner and cars in general (new driver here), I'm wondering how difficult it would be for me and a buddy of mine to install this in his 'shop' his garage basically. Or should I just pay a 4x4 shop to do it? Also what is a good price spacer kit for both suspension and BL.

Don't do it!... It's a trap

Do a suspension lift instead of just spacers! you will be highly disappointed because you have not addressed the vehicles 16 year old suspension that is probably sagging either a little or a lot.

Mine for example is OME 891's (coils) with procomp 9000 shocks in the rear. The front are OME 883's with procomp 6000 shocks. This provided me a 3" lift and i love it. This is a little bit of a stiffer ride, but that is what i was going for. Keep in mind i am using this as JUST an example. there are hundreds of different options out there. Diff drop INSTALLED.

I was a complete newbie to cars and did this install myself, in a buddies garage. 13 hours later it was done and done right. 13 hours mind you because of a couple unforeseen issues like seized bolts (due to age of vehicle).

If you pay a shop, have fun not learning anything and paying out the @ss! Seriously, do it your self!

Doing this project my self has made me completely aware that i am capable of doing any and all services on my beloved '97 sr5.

Total cost me $760 ($460 for the OME's from fat bobs, diff drop included at $20 and the procomps i believe were $200)

Thank you! This completely addresses my situation because I do notice my saggy the truck feels very slumped down and slooshy.

When I first purchased mine, I had no intentions of doing a thing to it, and didn't know this site existed. While traveling the trails I noticed it would bottom out and it was gross sounding. I then found this site and did the suspension lift. Now in the works is B&M 70268, Tundra brake upgrade (231's) on the split spoke wheels so a spacer will be needed. I think for the spacer I am going to go with 1/4".

What should be at my house upon arrival today will be my aisin TKT-025 water pump kit and beck arnley 143-0722 thermostat. Ordering today, I will be purchasing Energy Suspension steering rack bushings and front sway bar bushings and either a denso or TYC 1998 radiator. My radiator and super cooler (B&M) will be run in succession.

Its an addiction!

Will the shocks you mentioned give me a 3" Lift?

I can't speak for the body lift, but the suspension install is totally doable...especially with 2 people. I did it myself over a weekend. Just research this site for write ups, get all the tools you need ready, expect a few "dangit, this is a PITA to get in/out!", and you'll be fresh with a sweet looking rig.
