Advice for the new owner of a 3rd Gen?

My next door neighbor's friend just picked up a 2000 4Runner. 6cyl SR5, 130k miles, paid $6k. He says it in great condition. Anything he should look out for or get done right away? He's doing the belt and water pump tomorrow.

Install a stand alone transmission cooler instead of using the radiator. The radiator likes to fail and dump coolant into the transmission, which destroys it in pretty short order.

Front/rear diff fluid change.Just be sure to remove the fill plugs first...then the drain plugs. All in all a very easy job.

Where can I get the transmission cooler? Which model? Or is that just a bandaide and would a new radiator be better?

Yep, go over the "3rd Gen buyers guide" supplied by Ripcord.
and change all your fluids to synthetic.
