Advice on new car purchase

Hi, I posted this in new members, but I'm reposting here for better response.

I currently own a h3 and it's getting close to replacement time. Some people on the hummer forums suggested I look into the 4Runner.

I've looked into the trail premium and Trd pro ( if I can find one ) and I'm looking for opinions from people who own them on likes and dislikes. The other car I'm considering is the grand cherokeee. Outside of the fact that that's a unibody and the 4Runner has a chassis why one over the other? I have no experience with Toyota and have been an American car guy my whole life, but I'm not opposed to getting one if its the best value for my money.

hi, this is my two cents. I used to have a T4R trail edition in a lease. When the lease was up I purchased a Jeep Wrangler. I lifted it and put on big tires and man oh man it looked great, ....but the ride sucked. I traded this in after a year for a 2014 Cherokee. I soon discovered that despite being a nice ride, that there is a huge issue with the transmissions. There was also a quality issue with the sunroof. Within 6 months I went to the dealer, ready to trade up to a Grand Cherokee. Did some on line research and discovered that the Grand Cherokee transmission has the same complaints as the Cherokee. I have since returned to a 4Runner. They are dependable, drive great, look great, and they last. Doesn't matter whether it's an SR5, Trail, or TRD, they're all great. Good luck

I've run the gamut from GM to Jeep to Land Rover to Yota in terms of 4x4 utes.

In my mind, it's pretty simple. You buy Jeep if you want gizmos and luxury bling. You buy Toyota if you want rock solid.

You mention best value for money. That's a very interesting criterion. I'd say that Jeep gets you better bang for your bucking terms of upfront cost vs. features/horsepower/etc.

But, the 4R will get you better value in the long run with less depreciation and maintenance costs.

this is how I look at this.

usa = less cost up front, more out of pocket during the lifetime of the vehicle

Toyota = more up front cost, very little out of pocket during the lifetime of the vehicle.

this is looking at repairs/maintenance/downtime costs outside of normal.
