Advice on Trailer

After I got back from my Summer vacation our family now wants to go camping out West next year. Then the idea came up to get a camper, possibly a pop-up camper.

Any advice on:

1.) What type of trailer to buy, pop-up camper or any another type?

2.) I will probably buy used, what do I look for?

3.) Any brand of trailer you really like?

I will probably go 4 weeks, drive 5,000 miles and of course use my 4Runner. I will also use this trailer for years to come. I don't want a super heavy trailer, so it is not a burden to trailer. But I am open to suggestions.

I am learning about trailers, thanks to the RV forums. I found a Hybird trailer, about 20 feet with pop out beds weighs 3,000 to 4,000 pounds. The pop up trailers, about 10 feet, weighs 1,200 to 2,000 pounds.

Thats just the begining wieght, when you add your equipment it can go up 25%.

It looks like I could go with a Hybird, but the 4Runner would be happier with a smaller trailer.

I wonder what other people have towed with their 4Runner? One thing I don't want to do is over load the 4Runner. Anyway, I have all winter to get a trailer.

We know you're going to have a 2003 or 2004 model soon , so I thought this thread (http://www.yotatech.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12605&perpage=25&pagenumber=1) would help -- Mish has a 3,500-lb. boat and trailer that he pulled easily with his V6. And that includes the valve lifter noise!

Actually, I'll be getting a utility trailer soon (probably 5'x10') so it won't be nearly as much as what you are looking at, although it will have a 3,500-lb. capacity.

I have a Trail-lite B-19 RV, this summer we make 3000 KM (Gaspesie in quebec Canada). I have a brake controller with Eazy-lift torsion bar and a anti-swing. The trip was greatful, and in Gaspesie the road=hill, hill after hill with 3000lbs in the back we appreciate the 4runner. Last year we ake a little trip with a windstar 2002, the trip was very different.
