After a long time - My first post (mortem)

Hello All,
I guess there is nowhere else to start. I have been lurking here for a couple of years, getting awesome ideas for things to do to my beloved rig.

I've had an 87 and a 91 then I came across an great 3rd gen 99. That is the one that brought me here. I have done a few upgrades but was always too frigging shy to post a photo. I always thought,... after x I will create a post...

The morning of January 2, I left my girlfriends house and moments later I thought, 'I don't have a decent photo of this rig'. About 3 minutes after that, I was spinning through the air in a crash that NASCAR fans would have paid extra for. I was rear-ended by a Suburban, flew through the air and landed on the passenger side.

Soo, what it comes down to is, the insurance company totaled it, but, it runs great, drives fine (except for some front bumper shroud rubbing). The tailgate is bashed in but opens and closes, the pass sided doors open and close all glass is fine but the windshield. One of the 285 Duratracs is ripped and irreparable.

I can't afford to keep and fix it up. I'm wondering what you guys think, should I part it out or sell it whole? I would prefer to sell it as is because I think someone with a shop and time could get it back to where it was, and, sentimentally, I want her to go to someone who will care for her as I did..

Motor is strong at 166,000 and had regular oil changes.

*OME 9602 lift Kit- 881 front coils with spacer and 9004 shocks. 890 rear c oils 60028 shocks.
*Diff drop kit
*5 Star wheels gun metal gray - one is scuffed up from the roll over
*Deck plate mod
*Air Raid filter
*KC off road lights
*freshly painted hood w scoop

I would think you could make a bit more if you parted it out, but you may not want to deal with that hassle. If this was in about 2 months I would be interested in a few things, but good luck with whatever you decide.

Glad you're ok! Personally I would rebuild, if you have the time/tools. If you have a place to store it the parting it out will definitely fetch the most green (but you also have to pull parts, ship them, etc). Since you're in ColoRowdy I would think you could get some decent coin selling it as is, everyone in CO thinks 4Runner's are made of gold or something.

speaking of gold... PNW people are insane. They ask ~6k for a rebuilt titled. auto/no elocker. I wanted a 1st gen but I had a good deal on my manual so I had to jump on it. 5700$ later she was mine! Then taxes, titling, and rubber(750$). Still a crazy deal in PNW because from what I've seen i'd be asking 8k and taking 7600$ probably. That's just because of what I see around for cars like this. No e locker and 186k miles. They are made of gold that's for sure.

He better hurry! I'm seriously considering buying it, wheeling it everywhere between Co and TX, swapping the SC into my rig then selling it for what I bought it for!

If I had that money that was my thinking, the supercharger and corresponding mods alone are worth the asking price!

Thanks for the input guys. I was really lucky, my dog was too. I managed to grab him as he was floating slow motion in the air - crazy.

Yea, these things are like gold here, that's why I find that one on Craigslist suspicious. That is an awesome deal if true.

If so, I would like first dibs on the engine. Is it supercharged? If so, first dibs on the supercharger too!

If you have the room, buy that '97 for $3500 and then hang on to your wrecked one for a couple years.

That's almost what happened to me where I got a '98 for $300.00 with blown locker and high mileage.

So..I bought a '97 for 3500 that was road worthy.
So far I have used

VSV's
Brake rotors and pads (they were new on wrecked truck)
Rear drums and shoes ( new as well)
Steering rack ( it was new)
transmission and xfer case ( high mileage good looking fluid color).

I sure have got my $300.00 out of that parts truck and regaading the other 97 that I bought, it was salvaged with 165k on the clock and was just reaching a point where some major maintenance would be needed.

Just something for you to consider as well

Ha! glad I prepped myself for the vultures circling. If I really had the time I think I would part it out, it would be fun to be Santa Claus, a hood here, some head lights over there...
I guess I've decided I just can't do that, I unfortunately don't have the time.

Thank you again for your input and well wishes and all the ideas I gathered to to spruce her up. With a loan (which I haven't had in years) you might find me on the 4th gen side.
