Aftermarket Air Filter

I see a lot of threads regarding CAIs, but has anyone had any experience with an aftermarket drop in filter like the AFE, K&N, or True Flow...preferably in the V6?

I was about to pull the trigger on the AFE drop in, but I figured i'd get some feedback before I went any futher; thanks!

I've tried a couple, k&n and truflo, but nothing fits like OEM. OEM is best as far as filters go, IMO.

Put your wallet back into your pocket...these aftermarket airfilters are next to worthless and may hurt your engine.

Thanks Thai; you have the Xdi Cai right? How is that treating you? I've read other threads where you were getting better mpg out of it; still the case? As far as sound on the xdi, where does it stack up? Can you really hear the air sucking into the intake?

I think that you got the wrong person...i have no idea what the Xdi Cai is!

I have to disagree with you. I have the K&N drop in. It seals way better than the stock filter(it is now harder to put the clips on).
 
he must of mistaking thai for me, as i have the trueflow xdi intake, yea u can hear this thing suck air if u smash on the gas, does make my cherrybomb louder.

So fitting better means being harder to put in? :)

I'm not even going to go into all the crap k&n let's into your engine. Do yourself a favor and get rid of that piece of crap. I've had my share of those filters. They only do harm, IMO.

it works, i paid oly 283, i know that the price has gone up and expect to spend around 350 for it now. the quality is alot better than most intake i have seen, trd/ afe they go for like 400 and they the same intake with different names, also kand n , i was think about it but it looked cheap, remember u get what u paid for, i think injen has one they look like the trueflow xdi design but its more weird looking.
 
I had the K&N intake before and it was fine but i wasnt satisfied on how my engine was reacting to it so what i did was try a trueflow filter with my k&n intake and boy let me tell you it was a world of difference, had to sell my intake though wife didnt like the noise much when i gunn it. now i have the k&n drop in filter but took it off cause it was filthy, im going with the AFE pro dry S now since im not a fan of the oiled filter ones, i just wish trueflow made drop in filters for the V6 i would have gotten that in a heartbeat.
 
k&N Air Filter

I have to respectfully disagree with the aftermarket high flow air filter haters.

I have used K&N air filters in my last 3 vehicles with no issue. I currently have one in my runner and it fits like a glove in the box and will last me years opposed to buying new standard ones every year. I have not noticed any significant change in performance but I think it is a quality product that works well and I would recommend it.

Consider it a breath right strip for your engine...
 
I've used the K&N's for nearly 10 years now, and I like them.

I think the main factor in OEM decisions not to use the wet / reusable type is warranty/service costs. It costs them next to $0 labor to drop a replacement paper cartridge in, but it would cost them $ to pay a tech to clean/re-oil a reusable.

Not to mention the profit selling new paper elements.

I just dropped an OEM filter in there today; i might consider a CAI down the road, but for now there are too many other mods to consider.

P.S. my lift goes on tomorrow!!
