I stand corrected. I've been under the impression that what I stated was true for a few years now, and I think some other people (I forget who) believe the same thing. I've seen other people say what I said in multiple other threads, or at least I understood it that way.
I guess all that really matters in terms of actual part numbers is 1 cat vs 2.

Also, the 1 cat system has O2 sensors front and rear. Only the Cali. 2-Cat has the wideband air/fuel sensor in front.

So there IS an advantage to having the dual setup!

If your objective is to turn the light out on a 2001, one cat in where two were used originally won't do the job. It will set a P0420 right away, or quickly. The 2-cat system operates to stricter parameters and NEEDS both cats to meet them.

I hope your Camry's converter isn't actually damaged to the point where the core has broken apart...probably not since it would've caused poor drivability.

Ah. Not a big deal with the front Cat. Gives me the two high air registered in the 2nd downstream. The exhaust isn't leaking and the 2nd cat was replaced with Walker when I had the exhaust replaced 4 years ago. Kinda off topic anyways. One of these years I will replace it. I hate check engine lights. My brother drives that rig and dosent mind it.

I used eastern catalytic on my GF's Lexus recently and was impressed with build quality, and price. Took care of her code also, of course.

You can also bypass downstream O2 with a capacitor and resistor. Schematics are out there somewhere on the www, don't have in front of me here.
