Hey everyone,

When I had my Tacoma, I had a Wicked Flow muffler on it. It gave the V6 a little more growl when you got on the gas but wasn’t annoying sitting at lower idles.

Anyone swap out the stock muffler on the 4runner to give it a little more grrr?
I have a 2016

Cheers

Like it as much on he 4runner?

Do you have the full catback system, or just muffler?

I am looking for just a muffler swap out.

The FlowMaster 40s are a bit too loud for my taste on a 4runner

On my 4th gen runner I have a magnaflow and when it is on idle it is quiet. I preferred it over the flowmaster.

I'm still stock at the moment but the only one I've heard that didn't sound riced out is Borla. The others just get too raspy at higher rpm's and IMO sounds like a glorified Honda.

mbrp part #: GP190426 with some 2.5” piping
Give your 4runner some balls. Had an MBRP full catback on my Tacoma and they sound the same just with a $500+ price tag

I think just changing the muffler out would be the way to go, the pipe is 2.5 and is run pretty darn clean under there. Save yourself some $$$$.

I can’t speak for the newer 5th gens but my 2012 had 2.25 piping.
Because of the diameter issue I started from scratch and cut my exhaust at the flange and welded 2.5 piping to my muffler then dropped before the axle.
It actually looks slick and I have less of an issue of exhaust smell when my rear window is down.

I just installed a 50 series Flowmaster Delta Flow. It sounds fantastic. I didnt like the Borla or any of the cat backs because of the ricey 4banger sound it gives.

The Delta Flow sounds deeper and has more of a growl. Doesnt really drone at idle or highway speeds either. I love it.

What is this installed on?

Installed flowmaster super 70ii on both mine . Don't see them on website anymore , same size as oem muffler but more oval fits up in there tight ! Very healthy sound

just the muffler and stainless steel tip. that's it. sounds good and not loud inside and out.

nice low rumbles. my son with a FJ did a full TRD exhaust system and hated the sound lol.

Borla is the entire catback exhaust system though, correct?
Not just muffler?

Yes, complete cat back system. You could just buy a Borla muffler and have it installed with your original tail pipe also if you wanted to. If you're looking for performance, you're going to be disappointed. If you're looking for a little grunt, this will fit the bill.
