Aftermarket Radio, Backup Camera and Audio Controls Project

I just got the new Alphine INA-W910 yesterday and wanted to update this thread with the rest of my project details.

I have the 2004 sr5 t4r with standard 6-speaker radio that I have had since new. I upgraded the radio to the t1807 a few years ago along with XM. I am now ready to move up to newer and better technology so this is where my project begins.

I am going to try to keep everthing here in this thread to try help others out.



My project consists of replacing the radio with the new Alphine INA-W910 In dash GPS all in one system.

I am going to install the following with this upgrade.

Urban Runner Radio Trim Ring to give it more of a custom install look.

PANEL SETRADIO RECE PZ36535904

new SiriusXM tuner (model number SXV100)
HCE-C300R (Active View Rear Camera System)
KTX-C10LP (License Plate Mounting Kit)

To connect the antenna's

Metra 40-GM10
Metra 40-UV43


To install the audio controls in steering wheel:

Following parts ordered

1- Left Audio switch: 84247-35010-B0
1- Right Phone switch: 84244-35030-B0
1- Wire connecting two switches: 84204-58010
2- Mount bolt - W/cruise control - 9015950199
Airbag: 45130-35431-B0

To interface the steering wheel controls to the radio I ordered:

PAC SWI-RC All-in-One SWI Interface

I'm gathering all my parts now. I have everything in but the backup camera which comes in tomarrow.

I'll start tearing.....I mean installing everthing real soon. For now I've been doing a lot of research in prep for the install.

Steering wheel audio controls went in today. Since it was a quick job, I went ahead and installed these Parts. The parts bolted right in with no issues. I kept my old steering wheel for now. With the cost of all of these components, I think I'll wait a little while before I break down for a new leather and wood wheel.


First off, I disconnected the NEG side of the battery and let sit at least 90 sec.

Make sure wheels are straight and ignition in lock and removed keys.

I then removed the two steering wheel covers and loosened the air bag bolts.

I unhooked the air bag and the cruise control wire harness.

I connected the two new audio switches together with the new ribbon cable, bolted down the new controls. Plugged in the new harness that includes the cruise control harness too.

The new air bag's wire plug in's were crossed compared to my old one. So this through me a second but soon learned it was no issue. Plugged in the new wires and and bolted the airbag in place.

Re-installed the two covers and reconnected the Neg battery side.


Parts ordered and installed.

1- Left Audio switch: 84247-35010-B0
1- Right Phone switch: 84244-35030-B0
1- Wire connecting two switches: 84204-58010
2- Mount bolt - W/cruise control - 9015950199
Airbag: 45130-35431-B0


It will probable look much better with that new wheel........

The rear camera HCE-C300R just arraived via UPS. All I can say is holy cow! There is a lot I need to do to hook this thing up.

I got the Alphine INA-W910 and the power head KTP-445 in last night.
The Urban trim ring really made the install look pretty good.

I also install the PAC SWI-RC and the Sirius SXV100.

Install went prett smooth but I was unable to get the PAC SWI-RC to see the following buttons, mode, hang up, answer, voice.

When I pressed this buttons, the unit did not since me pushing the buttons. I will continue to work on this.

Had a little trouble findiong a place for the power head KTP-445. I ended up tucking it down under the glove box up against the firewall.

So far the XM and GPS antenna is setting on top of the radio and so far so good. I continue to monitor the reception and see if I have any issues.


Things I see right away with the GPS that seem off are:

1) The GPS accuracy is 17 feet. This seem a little odd. Going down one road, my vehicle icon was not even on the road.

2) No way to change voice choices.

I have not driven much yet and will see how this improves.

The GPS is doing much better now after driving around today.

The XM antenna seems to need moved from current location. It is cutting out to much. My last antenna was on the roof and did not seem to have as much issues.

I got the HCE-C300R (Active View Rear Camera System) and the KTX-C10LP (License Plate Mounting Kit) installed. Calibrating the camera was a major pain in the rear. Instructions is not clear on calibrating the camera with the HU display. After a couple hours, I got it figured out.

The rear camera with the active motion detection and alerting is sweet. The camera on the license plate frame ended up looking pretty good.


I ended up moving the GPS antenna from under the dash to under the cover of the luggage rack cover. Much better reception then under the dash on top of the HU.

If I recall correctly, the PAC SWI install manual states that a different resistor needs to be used if you're installing it in a T4R with the phone controls on the steering wheel.

Thanks E-Man. I pulled their vehicle specific instructions which states to add the 560 ohm resistor. I did not see any thing on a different resistor for the phone controls.

I called PAC last night and he gave me some things to start checking. He thought they may be something wrong with the the wire with the resistor. Either the resistor having a issue or a broke wire there at the resistor. He said that some of the buttons may still work with that wire or resistor not working.

I think I will start by checking and recording the voltage drop from each button and make sure I'm actually getting a drop from the other buttons that are not working. Also make sure I got a good connection where I tapped into the wire.

I'll keep this updated as I progress. If any one thinks of something, keep me posted.

WAHOO! I finally got all the buttons working on the steering wheel. This is awesome! I now have volume up\down, presets up\down, source, recieve, end, mute.

The problem was a broken wire at the resister that I had soldered in series with pin 8 on the PAC SWI-RC.

Everything is now working great and excited about finished product.

How are you liking that Alpine? I'm still deciding between that unit and the Pioneer AVIC-X930BT. Great thread so far as I want to replace the stock rear camera (terrible quality) and add the phone controls to my right-side steering wheel. I've got a 2005 Limited w/ JBL.

The Alphine is great. I was in the same vote, I was trying to decide between the Pioneer and the Alphine. There are some things I like about the Pioneer but what pushed me to the Alphine was the 7 in screen and on the Pioneer items such as HD tuner and IPOD cable are extra.

I got the XM interface free for the Alphine when I purchased it. I like the new XM component that was developed for the Alphine. I is very small and only one piece compared to the older larger two piece module.

Bluetooth was a very important option I was wanting and it is working flawless. The remote mic picks up great and cancels the background noice. The Iphone is connecting and working great with the alphine.

I have always used Garmin for navigation and the Alphine uses NAVTEQ. I dont know yet if the NAVTEQ is as good but it should be fine. So far the only thing things I miss are: No different voice options and miss the ability to up load my own custom routes.

Imputting addresses and waypoints seem as good or better then garmin and routes that are calculated may be different then garmins calculated route.

I'm not a sound expert so probably would not notice any sound quality between the two. But the Alphine does sound nice and the 45W inline power head was a nice feature to boast the power a little. The sound does seem better then the T1807 and I seem to be hearing different things in the music then I did not hear before. It is real nice sound quality.

I know the Alphine is quite a bit more but I thought since it was newer, the technology would be newer and maybe work better. Thinking of it more like the difference between a new computer and that is one or two years old. They both do the same but the newer one always seems to work faster or better.

You did an excellent job with your 4Runner, I'm starting immediately this for my 2007 Ltd. 4Runner, but, I'm thinking purchase the Pioneer AVIC-Z110BT radio instead of Alpine, as it has almost the same functions, and I prefer the Pioneer design, you believe that could be a compatibility issue between the Pioneer equipment and camera Pioneer HCE-C300R and the power head KTP-445?

I want to make the changes like you did it, plus adding a DVD system for passengers, which system would you recommend that is not too expensive?

I appreciate any advice about it, by the way, where Airbag bought-B0 45130-35431, I'm in DR and the official dealer of Toyota it's too expensive, I'll buy it online.....let me know.....

The power head KTP-445 will only work on the newer alpine with the black connector. The rear camera should work. It just needs a displace and can use RCA connector.

Question about power

Everything you have done looks great. I am about to install a similar system (Alpine w407, navigation module, XM module, video Bypass, and steering wheel controls). I am trying to plan it out right now and was wondering how are you powering all the equipment. Do you have all the items running off the factory headunit power? I would appreciate any help. INA-W910 install question

I have a 2006 limited with JBL. I just received my INA-W910 and have a question. The trim plate that you used doesn't seem to fit "factory-like" at the top section. Is this a misconception in the photo? How do you like the INA now that you have had it installed for several months?
