Aftermarket radio install guide?

Ok so non-JBL factory system. The factory head unit has three plugs in the back of it. My wiring harness for the aftermarket unit only has the two main plugs. What is the third for?

Same with mine ..see above. Everything is hooked up and working correctly. My guess is it's for rear seat entertainment (the dome light screen) or external CD changer.

I'm on vacation right now. I have ordered my Metra 70-1761 Receiver Wiring Harness from Crutchfield.com. They have also included (with my order) installation instructions...pretty cool!

I guess my only remaining question is which splicing method is preferred amongst my fellow T4R owners? Soldering? Or butt connectors? Right now my plan of action is to solder the new connections and finish with a heat-shrink tubing.

Thoughts?

This is exactly the type of stuff that is very valuable before you start tearing stuff apart.

Hey so this is my first post on this forum. Went through a lot of stuff and can't figure it out. So I've been looking at a ton of 4th gen 4runners. Mostly with jbl package. Today I had one I really liked and still want to get it. The issue was the previous owner put in an aftermarket Kenwood touchscreen unit. Messed with all the settings and still only got the front door and tweeters to work. Is this something I could easily fix with the wiring behind the head unit or is it something I would have to do the extensive interior tear down to get to the factory amp? Hoping for quick response. This 4runner is going to go quick this weekend. Thanks ahead of time

Without knowing what all the PO has done to it, hard to say. But it is easy to run new speaker wire and amps if it is too fubar to be corrected.
