I recently had an Alpine 9856 radio installed and I unfortunately had to have it removed. It's very sad b/c it was a pretty slick radio. I'll put a link to my orginal post with pictures at the bottom of this post.
Has anyone had any better luck than me? If so please tell me what you got.
These are the issues I faced with it.
1. The unit only worked with my door speakers and I lost 6 out of 10 speakers (I have the JBL)
2. The steering wheel controls did not work as advertised. Instead of changing the radio presets it would change from like channel 11 to channel 12. I read in the manual and asked the installer and there was no way to get around that with this radio.
3. At night the radio's blue lights were uncomfortably bright. Maybe it was b/c the 4Runner's lights are a soft orange and the Alpine's lights are blue. Regardless, the Alphine's lights just were a little brighter than everyhing else. It would be ok like on the highway where there were lights, but if I went somewhere really dark it was annoying.
