I ran into some problems after installing an aftermarket stereo and was wondering if anyone had any ideas..
I decided one day i wanted to upgrade the sound in my '97 4wd 4runner, i removed the stock head unit, stock amp behind the head unit, cheap add on 10 cd changer that was someone added before me and was having issues to i decided just to get rid of it. I installed a sony xplod head unit with built in 52x4 outputs that go to the factory speakers. I also added an amp with 2 12s subs in the back. So after i got everything working it seemed to be working fine. The headlights dim only a small bit with loud bass sections and the head unit doesnt dim or do anything weird with heavy braking. It seemed to be working fine and i left to go back to college and i cant bring it with me at the moment
.
But my problem is that a few days later the car wouldn't start. So a family member was stuck at work for awhile, but after she waited for help, she tried again later, and it started. I disconnected the amp from the battery thinking that it might have somthing to do with the large drain the subs and amp would have on it. (Amp is seperatly powered then head unit via 4guage cable to battery) Next day, had the same problem wouldnt start, then later it strangely starts up. Anyway i disconnected the head unit and afterwards the car starts normally, just without any music at all. It might also be unlocking and locking randomly while driving or thats what ive been told while the head unit is on.
So im thinking i might have to do a seperate power line to the head unit or something? Anyone experience anything similar to this?
