Ahh, the power of the V8

Having used Chevy and Ford V8's to tow boats most of my life, I was skeptical about the power of a foreign V8 when it comes to towing a 5500 lb plus boat and trailer. Today I went and got my boat out of storage and I was absolutely amazed at how well the runner did towing it home. I have been extremely impressed with everything about this 4th gen 4Runner since I got it a couple of weeks ago. On top of the impressive towing, it's getting 17mpg calculated on my 16 mile commute to and from work. Sorry for the bragging post, but this thing is bada*s and so is the community that comes along with owning one. :thanks:

Damn right! I don't tow or anything, but I'm amazed at the power of this thing. I love how Toyota put the power of a full sized truck into a mid-sized SUV. Also, how you barely have to tap your foot to climb big, steep hills.

Great I just bought one, 2008... flying to texas on wednesday to drive it back to san diego. Charcoal leather by gulf states to boot arty:

Used to pull a 6,000 lb travel trailer with mine...did it just fine. One thing I did notice was using 93 octane fuel helped with the towing.

Your right, don't underestimate the actual raw power the t4r has!

My suped up v6 has no issues pulling my boat around (pic). Even pulls my dads Centurian Enzo sv230 like its nothin! both are easily about 5,000lbs.

I've towed a few things with mine and I never cease to be amazed by it. I've owned a lot of cars - but my 4runner has been the best. Every time I get in it I fall more in love with her. It's been the most reliable car I've ever owned and when the time comes to replace her I'll do so with another 4runner.

Thats great to hear! I have yet to tow anything but I did buy my 04 with the V8 to replace my worn out 97 explorer. I will be towing two full size ATV's with a 14 foot trailer or a Sylvan aluminum fishing boat with 30 hp engine so not as much as 5500 lbs that you are towing. I have a question. It appears my hitch is a lot higher than my explorer. Will I need a 2 1/2 inch or a 5 inch drop for the T4R? I cant take the one out of the explorer because it is rusted solid inside!

i have been dying to tow something with my 4Runner which i also just picked up a few weeks ago. my last v8 was an LQ4 6 liter chevrolet that could tow for days (pulled an M35a from california to florida with it once)

i know the little 4.7 wont match that but it feels pretty peppy for a small displacement v8

id put the 2uz-fe up against any other truck/suv engine out there... nothing is as smooth that's 4 sure

same for me and my boat towing. We bought a 2012 Mastercraft X-35 in February, never had so much fun in my life:bluejump: Wishing i could tow it with the runner

I actually used a hitch that has no drop. It pretty comes straight out of the receiver. I wasn't sure how much the trailer was going to cause the back of the runner to sag, that's why I used a hitch with no dropped. Worked perfect.

That x-35 is a lot of boat. I wish my Nautique had that much room inside. The wife, two kids, and all their crap gets crowded in a 21' Super Air. How much does that thing weigh?
