Air compressor recommendation

[MENTION=68685]Ducmonsta[/MENTION] and I just installed my compressor last week. IMO this is the best way to go about it. Super clean install and takes up very minimal room. The [MENTION=125603]bandi[/MENTION] mount worked out perfect. We installed the air line chuck inside the front bumper so it's easy to get to. I have a black vinyl plug to cover up the chuck to keep debris out of it. Here are a couple pics.

Had my Air Zenith ob2 for about a year now after upgrading from a viair 270c. It's a little louder than the viair, but waaaaaay faster. Fits nicely in the secondary battery location in front of the TRD air box. Sits on an aluminum bracket I fabbed

Just checked out your build thread, nice job on all! One question... When you installed the Aux battery, where did you move the tank? It looks like you have it inside the truck in one picture, is there where it is now? I am searching for a location to mount my 1.5 gallon tank, I would like it to me outside somewhere. Haven't had the time to get under the truck since its still freezing here in NY.

Tank was relocated to the rear. I actually did a set of drawers that I haven't had a chance to write up yet, the tank is in behind one of the drawers

Run a Viair portable unit. Just throw the bag in whatever vehicle I take out. Works well for me and friends who need to borrow it.

Also with the portable crowd. Had and went through 2 of the bigger $50 harbor freight ones. Just upgraded to the $150 smittybilt one. The smittybilt one is nice.

I use this same compressor. VERY nice for the price. puts out an incredible amount of air. doesn't seem to get too hot, and its not that loud.

Great thanks. Works perfectly there with the drawer setup. I'm at a point where I want to keep the storage area stock right now. Once it warms up a bit more I'll get the tank underneath the truck somewhere.

For all you portable guys, the puma compressor is great for that. I divorced mine from the tank and have to compressor permanently mount at the moment and will be mounting the tank soon. I do a lot of beach driving and having the built in unit is a must for me. Being able to flick a switch and air up is great and also having the ability to blow my feet off is great too.

In my fj80 I have a engine driven York 210 compressor and that thing is a BEAST. 10 cfm all day long at any pressure. At 1800 rpms it fills 33s from 18 to 40 psi in 30 seconds. Tried to go that route in the 4Runner but there is just limited space in comparison. I'll get something developed sometime soon I'm sure.

Have to be careful with mounting below deck. No matter what sort of coating your tank has you will eventually run into rust issues, and unless you have a swing out tire carrier, there really isn't a whole lot of room underneath. I have seen them done behind the front bumper, but underhood or in the cargo area are the best options I've seen.

I don't have easy access to CO2 so that option is on the back burner.
I like the idea of using the AC unit but would have no clue how to rig it...[emoji52].
I will defiantly look into the portable models mentioned in the thread.
Again, it will be some time before I pull the trigger because things are very busy here and I do a ton of research before buying something.
All of the feedback is very much appreciated.
Glad so many have shared their experiences. This forum played a huge part in my purchasing a TE over any other model. It's always good to hear what you guys are doing to your rigs.

The ARB twin compressor is what I would use if I were to do my air setup over again. I have dual Viair400s now with basically the same CFMs, but it ended up being more expensive, time consuming, and takes up more space.

On paper at least, the Viair dual 400C kit is a couple hundred less than the ARB twin compressor. What'd you run in to that made your Viair setup cost more?

You're lucky then. I've seen pc viair tanks rusted nearly beyond recognition here in Alberta after only a year

like you, I do a lot of research prior to purchasing. for the money, I didn't find a 12v compressor better than that one. knowing full well going in, its made in china "crap", I took a chance on it. I'm glad I did. its amazing, and I am impressed every time I use it.


they make a smaller version also, that's about half the output, for half the price. I got one of those for my dad, it works great also.

yes, and though I don't have the equipment to test it, I would guess it does put out the stated amount. it airs up my tires very quickly.

I tried timing it a few times, though just using my watch. but from 10psi, up to about 32 on my 35's, was around 15 minutes for all 4.

have also done my 35's, and my buddies 42's, back to back. no issues from the compressor. and it never got too hot.

time will tell, but so far its an amazing compressor for the price.

Mostly time involved with trial and error. Using different leader hose lengths, manifolds, check valves, electrical setups, mounting options, chasing leaks, finding the best thread sealants.

How big are the CO2 tanks?

I use a 10lbs tank. It fits perfectly behind the driver or passenger seat, even when the rear seats are folded. that locks it in place so it cant move. I just filled it up again earlier this week at a local welding supply store. It costs about $30 to refill, and that lasts me about a year. I also use it to refill a smaller Soda Stream tank for our kitchen.
