air conditioner warranty

It's getting hot here in VA and seems like my AC doesn't have enough cold air coming out, is that normal or should I take it back for the dealer to check it out? Also, my car is around 28K miles, doesn the warranty cover AC also? Thanks guys

YEs, the warranty should cover the air conditioner.

In my experience, if a vehicle sits in the sun, it takes the A/C a long time to cool down the vehicle. But if you've had it in the shade (or a garage, etc.) then it cools much faster. When you think about it, if it's been in the sun, the interior temperature can be 120+ so it makes sense.

try this before taking it to the dealer.
when u first get in, open up all the windows and moonroof and drive it a mile to get the hot air out while the ac is running. then close the windows n moonroof and see if it's any cooler.

also be sure that the outside circulation button is ON so it doesn't circulate the hot air in!!! if u have the ac on auto, auto will almost always turn this off.

and of course make sure the vents are physically open. if if this fails then take it to the dealer

My AC takes a short amount of time to cool the interior lately (been 90*+), but if I blast it, it does get pretty chilly. If it bothers, you take it into your dealership and ask them to demo a 4Runner on the lot to make a comparison.

In hot weather I use the key fob button to open the rear window, before I even get to the vehicle, to let some of the heat out. Then when I'm up and running a mile later I close it to keep the cool air in.

I must admit that the slowest fan setting for the HVAC is pretty weak on the 4R. I usually run my AC on with the slowest fan speed and it is barely adequate (in 80-85degree weather). I normally close the vents to the rear and sometimes the left vent on the passenger side to redirect and increase the airflow to me. I don't use recirc function unless there's a polluting car near by. I try not to use the 2nd fan setting as it is usually a bit too much. Too bad there wasn't more than 4 fan speed like most Mercedes that has over 10 speed settings (I think). I once drove to Vegas for my buddy's bachelor party (with 3 passengers) and it was about 105-110 degrees outside and I had my AC on the whole time (w/the 2nd & 3rd fan speed) and it never seemed to be cold enough, just cool. I didn't use the highest fan setting as I think it might be working the AC unit too hard. Wish it was a bit colder.

If you live in a humid climate, using recirc mode once the interior cools down a little will reduce the load on your AC system and should give you cooler air.

have u ever changed your cabin air filter ,if it is real dirty it can restrict the amount of air thrown from heater and airconditioner.i would also use the auto and set temp to 68 or so.when i do this it gets very cool very quickly.if all else fails take it to your dealer.

It may not do you much good, but I've noticed that the fan has more than 4 speeds when under automatic control. (The fan speed changes but the indicator light on the fan control doesn't move). Perhaps if you put the a/c on automatic and play with the temperature button, you can find a fan speed 1/2 notch higher than the slowest manual setting.

To get the AC to cool down the vehicle as soon as possible I do this; As Kmvreter mentioned I use the fob to open the rear window before I even get to the vehicle. As soon as I start the engine I open the front door windows. I then make sure the HVAC controls are in the auto mode (it usually is in auto all the time). I then make sure the outside air is cut off and set the two temp controls down to low. The lowest number reading is 65 degrees, after 65 the display shows "LOW". In low the system is set to never reach a set temp, so it runs at max cool and max fan speed until you raise the setting. You will achieve a lower temp faster cooling the interior air supply. By the time you set the controls you can now close all the windows. When the temp is close to comfortable you can raise the temp settings to your personal comfort settings. For me 68 degrees is good. As temp reaches the set temp, the fan speed will gradually slow.
