Air Conditioning Filter?

I have a strong musty smell that becomes evident immediately when I turn on the air conditioning. I checked the cabin A/C filter and it looks completely clean.

Change it anyway? Any other ideas?

Do some hunting around on here, or maybe someone will post the link. There have been others with this problem, and they did some form of "fogging the system" w/ a disinfectant.....somewhere in the engine bay, under the wipers IIRC. Didn't save the link since I wasn't experiencing the problem, but read up on it none the less.

So who's got the info for the man? :D

Usually this time of year when people are starting to fire up their A/C for the first time (I turn mine off even though the climate control wants to turn it on everytime I go to "Auto") since last summer, the system can smell a bit. Try running it for a couple of more days and see if the smell doesn't linger. It is normal in most cars for the A/C to stink a little right when you turn it on (especially when it hasn't been on for a while) and sometimes right when you turn it off if the fan is still on. It should clear up for you though. Keep us posted.

The A/C in all of my cars smelled because I used to always default to using recirculation mode and it wouldn't get any fresh air in and in turn smell...I started using fresh air mode only and never had a smell again.

Just my .02
