Air intakes and exaust.....will air flow be good or bad for MPG?

Hey team
i remember a while back there was a post re a member who installed a intake as well as an exaust.
these are two mods i really want to take on
however it was said that the added air from from intake and exaust causes worse MPG
i thought it was the other way around
what are your thoughts on this?
does an upgraded exaust lower MPG?

As far as i know getting the air into and out of the engine faster and more efficiently makes the engine run better and in turn won't harm gas mileage. That is unless you can't keep your foot out of it.

to me, yes, air intake improves gas mileage for me. it might not for others but for me, it currently saved me gas by 50%. or maybe more. but yes, as nh00gts stated, if you floor it all the time, there's no point of saving gas. even though it does increase hp. :

50%....or more. Humm...!!! I wish I can achieve 0.5% increase, then I'm gonna be happy as hell.

that is just an estimated for my car. of course, i cleaned my engine, cleaning MAF, other sensors, etc. the best way to save gas is using cruise control. :
