Air/Vent Mode Issues...

So there's been this slight clicking noise under my dash area for a while and I always said I would look into it "eventually". Well eventually it turned into an ugly grinding, growling noise. After playing with all the mode buttons for a bit, it eventually just got stuck on defog/defrost. Turns out the servo only wants to rotate one direction so once it gets to that mode it just starts stuttering/grinding as it tries to rotate back to the other modes. I can help it move back by turning it by hand. If I select defrost again, it moves all the way back smoothly - no problem.
Anyone else had a similar issue? I've only had a short time to mess with it. Hopefully I'll have time soon for a more invasive investigation.

Also, does anyone happen to know what the servo is called, or part number, for the mode selector?
Also again, any tips on removing the blower unit to access this servo?

look for "servo"....there are tons of threads on the subject. Most people seem to have the issue with the temperature mix. Whichever one controls the switch from dash vents to feet is starting to click on mine but like you it's not quite bad enough for me to tear in just yet.

The recirculate/fresh air servo is also a high failure rate from the threads I've seen. I'm not sure what the ramifications are to just putting these in your preferred position and unhooking the electrical. I live in FL so it's pretty much AC and dash vents 365 days/year. I'd be fine to just disable all the auto-HVAC junk.

Good luck on your project. Toyota was nice enough to bury most of these in the bowels of the dash.

Cool thanks for the heads up. Yeah, I just helped the servo reach the desired position and unplugged it.
