Anyone install a airaid throttle body spacer on a 3rd gen 4runner? Was there a power increase? How was the install?

4th Gen. Power - ??? may be 1-2hp, Torque - yes, you can feel it, especially while off-roading, ~5-6%. Installation was easy, just take the original hose out install the spacer and mount the hose back.

TBS will do nothing and any power is imagined and has been disproven on many a dyno many times but if spending $80 ona easy to install part makes you feel better than have at it but car guys and tuners know they are just a gimmick. Modern FI engines don't need the air to be "spun" to make extra power. It's does the same thing as the Tornado sold on late night TV does which means very little except lighten your wallet.

I've got 20+ years of working on cars and spent the last 11 drag racing a '93 Eclipse and also a couple in there road racing a '00 Integra Type R and spacers don't do a thing.

Do your research and spend your hard earned $$$ on something else.

Yes, F1 engines are not using such things, because it's build to get the maximum from it. Road vehicle engine is build to meet several government requirements; otherwise they wouldn't be able to sell the cars. So sometimes they cutting the air flow to the engine for variety of reasons (emission, consumption, noise ...) This means that you may do some upgrades, if you are not worrying that you will have more consumption, louder noise, less engine life and others.
Overall I agree with you, I would never do anything to F1 engine and might do something to the stock engine, because I like to make some upgrades myself with vehicle. It may be that I'm filling some gains in torque, because I've done it myself and I want to have more torque. It's all personal.

I'm pretty sure he was talking about a FI Engine or "Fuel Injected" not a F1 or racecar engine...

Anyways, its proven in industry that swirling air improves air/fuel mix. Why do you think Chevy calls ALL of their V6 & V8 engines Vortec??

Sorry, I thought he was talking about F1. But, anyway, my point is still working.;):

Still not proven on a dyno and if it did do something like that based on it's simplicity then car manufacturers would have alrady been putting this into the vehicles from the factory. Like I said I've got over 20+ years around cars and the track and these have been around since the '80s and still haven't proven to do a thing except get you to blow $80.
Pull some proof up for me since there's plenty of evidence to debunk these things but people still want to believe in the minority that they work.

I also don't think Chevy calls their engine Vortec for that reason.:p

Just keep telling yourself that

I'm not telling myself;I was present at a dyno where my friend tested one on his '01 Tacoma and it made 2hp on one pull then would lose 2hp on another and in the end after 8 pulls (3 stock/5 with spacer) it made on the average .07hp which I've seen the same results with an air freshener or a Type R sticker. :p

Go hang out with some knowledgeable car guys and find out for yourself.

Hey,I'm just trying to save you guys some time and money but if it makes you feel better to blow money on something that has no real proof it works then have a ball.

You use that pointless example everytime you argue against a TBS. OK so it didn't make any difference on one engine in one truck at one dyno. The largest auto maker in the world uses the theory behind throttle body spacers in its full line of Vortec engines!! This is certainly more believeable than some guy who tried one once on a Tacoma and saw no results.

Is it worth $80? Probably not. I'm sure everyone is happy you are trying to save them money, but you might as well be real about the facts instead of using one test of the same engine as evidence and citing heresay from all your "knowledgeable" car buddies.

The theory behind the TBS is a sound one, and I don't have to hang out with anyone to know that. Thanks for trying out.

Show us some independent dyno testing proving that it increases horsepower, torque or MPG and I'll start to believe it. Your claims of "Hey a big automaker incorporates something similar in their engines, so it has to be good" doesn't fly with me either.

Well if that's not convincing enough evidence then I don't know what is...Unfortunately I'm not in the business of independently testing vehicles.

I'm arguing that the theory behind TBS is sound, every engine is different so the way it responds to this theory is going to be different, some may make no power from it at all, some may help power and MPG. My personal experiences w/ TBS are positive. I felt a noticeable improvement in power. I never had it dynoed because I just didn't care that much.

Read what some people say about it here...

This is from Airaid so it probably doesn't mean much, but same type of reviews as above:

http://www.airaid.com/feedback.asp

Here is a test on a Chevy TrailBlazer dynoed with a TBS:

http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa3707/is_200510/ai_n15642806

Like I've said in other posts, I would reccommend using a TBS in conjunction with a Cold Air Intake.

If they made one for the vvt-i V8 I'd probably buy one, and if I didn't notice any power or MPG increase I'd simply take it off and return it...Take from this what you will, I'm done here.

I keep on seeing this....

K&N Filtercharger

what the hell is this???? I keep on seeing this and wondering if this a drop in like what I have or is it something special no one is telling me about. I am looking right now at putting a CAI on and wondered if this is what you are talking about...
