I am thinking of installing an Airlift 1000 kit for towing and when loaded up for camping and I have a few questions.

My 2015 Trail has bump stops inside the spring that I believe just act as secondary's to the outer bump stops. They are one piece with the rubber top to the spring and I'm guessing I can just cut off the piece that comes down so the bags can go in right? I attached a pic to support my crappy written description.

2nd question, deflating the bags, is just letting out the air by pressing the valve stem in enough or does that still leave too much air in there which would hinder articulation from the suspension ? Doubt I will need full travel much but just a question.

There is a picture in the instructions of where to cut the bumpstop in the above picture. As far as I could tell, in no way do , or did, the airbag affect articulation in anyway.

It's the best mod you can do.

AirLift recommends keeping a minimum pressure of 5 psi. You may need a tire gauge with a lower range to read this accurately.

I just installed AirLift 1000 last week on my 2015 Trail. I cut 1st 3 rings off of jounce bumper. With suspension suspended ( watch tension on brake line ) I used a hacksaw blade to cut it off.Rolled up the bags and inserted with the springs still on the truck. Hose side of bag on bottom. Airlift doesn't have a kit on their website listed for a 13-16 4runner. But I used the part# 60809 that Antman had used on his and it worked fine.The instructions say to cut 1st 4 rings off of jounce bumper but those are for 10-12 model years. Jounce bumpers are designed different on the 13-16 model years.

Let me add, I am using stock rear springs so this #number may not be correct for taller springs

I have used these for towing in my Gen 3 and love them. 35 psi max 5 psi min

Thank you guys for the replies. Looks like I'm gonna go for it, I just need to crawl under there and double check my measurements for the springs. My truck is lifted so I'm going to order bag based off measurements instead of a kit.

I'm excited that I can level out the truck a little more without worrying about the reverse rake, and adjusting the headlights down when loaded up/towing.
 
I installed mine about a month ago and have no information to contradict what's been said already. FWIW, I installed mine with out disconnecting or taking off anything. I jacked up one side at I time similar to changing the tire. Once you get the bag in the spring, it fits tight. Not loose like in all those YouTube videos. I run them at 5 psi when unloaded and the ride is the same as stock.

2nd that. We had a hell of a time getting the bag in the spring. Dawn is your friend on that one.

I run mine at 20 psi when empty. Can barely tell the difference between that and no air.
 
I have these installed for towing and they work wonderfully. Since you've already lifted yours, you can just order the regular part number for the 4R and just not cut the bump stop as far and you'll be fine. I didn't replace the bump stop when I lifted mine and reinstalled the AirLift, I noticed that it still allows for a touch more compression than if I had ordered new bump stops but it still tows nicely. I keep 5-10PSI in mine, able to measure it via a bike pump without issue, it's also how i air them up, only takes maybe 5-10 pumps to get them to 25psi. Definitely the best mod I've done and one of the first I plan to do on my next truck.
 
# 60809 or measure your springs and AirLift will be glad to assist you with the proper kit for your application.

Good question- I have the same question about the 2019. I put the 60809 kit in my 11 FJCruiser. With the new 2019 4R I need them on it too.

So has anyone put them on the later 5th gen? Or tried and there was a problem...or???

I installed the 60809 in my 2015 SR5 with no issues :thumb:

Thanks- good to know..I don't know why AirLift doesn't show it in their info, I took a quick glance under there and didn't look much different than the FJC. Which I did our 11 FJC back about IIRC 2013 or so....

5th gen owners with toytec rear springs - what make and model did you run?

For measurements would this be - diameter of inside spring? Height from bottom to top?
