Eddiebx: Sounds great! With your install you just bought the viper alarm module 5904 and were able to program all of the above functions I mentioned without an extra additional module like a bypass for remote start and none of the hidden extra key ? Were you also able to program the rear window to roll down and up with the viper remote as well? How about when locking the t4r with OEM key fob does it arm the alarm as well or do they function separately? Any other nifty functions that you can think with the 5904?
I agree with having a competent installer which I know would be a challenge finding. What questions do you recommend asking an installer to guage if they're worthy with tinkering with the mighty T4R?:hail: How much would do you think is a reasonable rate for an install?
I enabled all of the aux functions like rolling the windows/sunroof up and down with just the alarm module itself, but you need a bypass module for the remote start and OEM alarm integration. What I used was the XpressKit DB-ALL, but Audiovox also makes an FL-CAN, which is similar. There are also lots of no name brand ones but I've not a clue how good they are. These modules allow you to integrate a lot of the functions and sensors through the CANBUS, instead of manually tapping/splicing in wires; and it also allows you to bypass the transponder without losing a spare transponder key (you basically learn the key code into the module itself and it will send it back to the transponder ECU when you try to remote start).
I should be able to hook up the tailgate window roll up and down functions eventually, but I haven't had the time to go into the tail gate yet and tap some wires, so for now, it's a maybe. Though I've looked at the wiring diagrams and I think I should be able to make it work.
As far as prices to expect, I am honestly not sure since I always do my own electrical work on my vehicles...but questions you can ask them are how do they plan to do the transponder bypass, do they solder the connections, if not, do they crimp and what kind of crimps (a proper crimp is very hard to achieve, and requires very specialized tools and crimps). For the most part, the best connection method you will get from audio/security installers are solder joint, and there's nothing wrong with that so long as they are done properly and covered properly (heat shrink tubing where possible).
I would probably just ask around locally and hear the reviews from people whom actually have had work done by them, and then go check out their shops and take it from there. I don't mean to scare you, but I've read a horror story here on this forum about someone getting a viper remote start installed on a 5th generation and ended up having to replace the whole ECU I think.
If you see them show you these types of connections below, run far far away
