Alarm goes off randomly...

But only if I use the key fob to remotely lock the doors, usually 2 -3 hours after locking them. Really sucks at night. Only way to get the horn to stop blaring is to start it up. 96 SR5 4WD Auto with "factory" alarm (dealer install?)

I try to remember to just use the key to lock/unlock but being so conditioned with any other vehicles these days, it's tough. Anybody else run across this?

Now, if I try the keyless fob to unlock the doors, it'll emit a real high shrill buzz, seemingly from the engine area. This keeps going to you get in and start it.

Seems everytime I start it, something else is different. Nothing major, just little quirks. Will make for a fun quest...

I have the same issue in my 01. I just lock it with the door most of the time. Unless I'm leaving it somewhere not at home or I'll be away from it for a while.

My alarm has been going off by itself recently and it's getting annoying. This is the 3rd time it has happened this month (I had this problem before). Is there something I need to look for to fix this?

I pretty much just unplugged the alarm box under the seat (making sure it would still start and run) and then just use the key to lock/unlock now

I had this problem in my 98 a few years back. The 3AM alarms were not fun. Took it in and they determined it was going off (from what I understand) as a warning that my battery was being drained. The source was the rear window motor constantly drawing power. When I disconnected that my alarm issues and dead battery problems were solved.

Are y’all using the Securikey+ system? If so I had the same issue. You have to set the sensitivity setting back a notch from the default setting it’s at now.

Does your rear gate dome light turn on or off when it’s on the “DOOR” mode? Sometimes the sensor switch inside the latching mechanism on the rear gate doesn’t work causing the alarm to go off. My buddies 99 4runner did it and it ended up being that.

Mine doesn't even turn on in the trunk but the other 2 in the front work.......

My rear gate sensor has been finicky and sometimes the light doesn’t comes on when I open it. This post just reminded me I might want to get that fixed so I don’t have the alarm issue.

I used to have the same problem, but with my home security system, the alarm could go off randomly as well. I decided to just turn it off, and that's it.

My issue was the tailgate "door ajar" light being on. I swapped the latch for a good one from a junkyard, programmed the key fob, then later swapped it out again for the original one with the red wire snipped and problem solved. It's been quiet for a couple months w/o any issues.

Man, I think it would be better to get it fixed instead. It's a security system, after all, and now that you've turned it off - it's just a bunch of detectors that don't work all around your house. When I got a security system from ajax.systems/ I didn't have any problems at all, and turning it off would be the last thing I do because my area isn't peaceful at all, so I think you should consider fixing your system.

Got to the vehicle this morning, fob wouldn't unlock, used key, set off alarm, used fob to turn alarm off. My clock and tripmeter both reset too. This is the 4th time this has happened and speculate there is a wiring issue somewhere. Replacing the "Big 7" cables and hoping this helps somehow.

Looking to solve and not disable too.

I'm judging by your signature that you have a 4th gen. If that's the case then the 4th gen section would probably be a better place to look around. This is the 3rd gen section which is 1996-2002. Good luck!

Will do. Im still too new to post my own, but this thread was the most similar to my issue I could find. Thank you!
