alarm issues?????

im new here and just recently purchased an 05 sportedition now everything was fine last week but its been gettin pretty cold in south jersey low 20's maybe teens at night. my problem is my alarm keeps going off for no reason at all during the night. i stayed at my rents house over the weekend and at like 4a.m. its started going off for no reason and samething last night when i came home it happened twice, is there something with these alarm systems, are they very sensitive to cold????

I have never heard of this problem. Make sure your T4R is equipped with an alarm from the factory and not an aftermarket. If it turns out to be an aftermarket system the shock sensory may be set too sensitive.

The buttons on the remote are pretty sensitive. When you put the keys down somewhere, could anything be laying on the remote or putting pressure on the buttons?

In the real cold weather the alarm sensor gets pretty sensitive and a even a small noise is enough to cause a vibration and fire off the alarm.

Crazy that you bring this up. Now it's not 4Runner specific, but this morning I was sitting in my 4Runner as I usually do in the parking lot at the college and this VW golf's alarm kept going off over and over and over again. It was reasonably cold out, probably mid 30's when this was happening, and as the temp gradually rised with the sun it dropped off in frequency, but it was annoying as hell, that's for sure.

Funny thing is, I've parked right next to that car before and today was the first time I've ever seen it do that. I think it's got something to do with the cold. Possibly it's the metal cooling off after the engine is shut off somehow trips the sensors off. I know my old car used to make some serious noises as the sheet metal cooled, loud "thunks" and ticks that'd actually cause vibration.

I dunno, my truck's alarm has never done that, my guess is it's got something to do with the weather tho.

You might want to check your door latches. Usually the alarm sounds when the microswitch inside the latch goes bad. The truck thinks someone is stealing it, which in turn, will sound the alarm. Good luck!

ok so last night it was alittle warmer out and had no problem but i also decided to just lock the truck from the switch inside and just close the door i didnt lock it using the remote and had no problems, maybe that will be my cure for the winter just wont arm the alarm i dont have alot of auto theft in south jersey anyway, well unless im in atlantic city lol.

Is there a way to check diagnostics on that alarm? Like a certain pattern of flashes from the led or the security light. Aftermarket alarms will do groups of 2 for door triggers, groups of 3 for shock sensors, etc. Also, check battery voltage. When its cold out voltage drops and some alarms are sensitive to this change. Make sure the battery terminals are in top shape.

i have a 93 4runner with a factory alarm and the remote no longer works. i need to change the truck battery, but i'm concerned that when i do, the alarm will go off with no way to stop it(the ignition trick doesn't work either). someone mentioned leaving the truck running while changing the battery, but would it shut off once disconnected?
is there a way to disable the alarm for good?

any help would be appreciated!!

If you're talking about the 4Runner's battery and not the remote's, most, if not all aftermarket alarms remain in the same state when power is reapplied. It should only turn back on when power is restored if it's in the armed state. If it's disarmed when power is cut, it should remain disarmed when power is restored. I think Clifford alarms systems, if I remember correctly will be armed the very first time power is applied (after a new install).
