Alaska rust issues

I'm looking at buying a highlander and found one in AK with 115k on it.

Can anyone in the great white north give me some insight on typical rust issues up there?

i Just moved to alaska, depending on where it is maybe i could go take a look at it for you, but from what i have noticed in the short time that i have lived here and viewing all the other runners driving by is the normal rust issues that you would see in any other state, rust on the undercarriage, rust on the bumpers, all around the tow hitch, rust on the chips on rims and paint...just your typical rust!
 
I've bought cars from all over the world (Boston, Niagara Falls, Calgary, Japan), and I've got to say, there is no way you are getting a good enough deal to justify the shipping or travel/fuel/lodging/food costs of buying a 4runner from Alaska and driving it back. Unless you are interested in the adventure (which is often the case with me), then you are further ahead looking much closer to you.

I pulled up Google maps and quickly determined that it is nearly 2400 miles from Anchorage, AK to Spokane, WA. It would be an amazing drive, so if that's what you're after then so be it.
 
I understand the distance issues, and if there was something I wanted close, I would do that, but there just isn't. Besides, who doesn't love a road trip?
 
hmmmm, Anyone else think it's a bad idea to fly to AK, buy a used car, and right away take it on a 2400mi trip through the remote rocky mountains?

I wish it weren't such a bad idea, because that would be awesomely fun.

Yeah, I thought about that too. This isn't an impulse thing. I was just wondering if anyone had some info on rust up there.
 
ive been In AK my whole life and so has my runner. Seeing as most all major towns in AK don't use salt in winter for roads they use sand and gravel rust isnt a huge issue from up here. But then again most of rust issues with vehicles can be traced back to an owner not taking the time to rinse the thing down with some warm water.
 
The salt on roads thing is mostly what I was interested in. So that's good news. I'll have the guy send me some pictures or something here before it's covered in snow. In September. Haven't even made contact to see if it has a locker yet. 2000 sport/highlander 5spd 4x4 though.
 
Right from the factory .... 3rd gen?... please don't take this the wrong way but....you bas****..lol

Like i said any maintenance needed on my truck requires this thought... if i touch it will it crumble?
