I'm obviously not an expert. Pretty un-respected around here as a matter of fact, but I sure see the word "estimate" getting thrown around a lot in those studies. "They estimate this much" and "estimate this percentage" sooo where do those estimates come from?
What my thought is as follows, based on a hypothetical example: if you smoke, and you go to the doctor, and have ANY disease or condition, they are likely going to blame those symptoms on smoking. Chalk it up, problem solved, it's the smoking. What funny, is that over the last few decades, cancers have risen by huge margins, yet smoking awareness and its dangers have grown hugely as well and less people smoke than ever... So all these cancers are from smoking, yet people in general smoke less... Just weird. It's almost like the medical field is grasping for any reason to solve the "why".
It's no different for alcohol. You get mouth cancer and you drank, well then it's from alcohol. But what if those same 26% or whatever also had the same brand of oatmeal for 30 years. Oatmeal that's treated with hormones, and pesticides, and process yadda yadda. You don't see them relating another common denominator now do you? No way. Cuz that would hurt the almighty food industry.
Obviously alcohol is a poison. Literally one molecule away from rubbing alcohol and methanol in either direction so it's clearly not the best choice. I just can't see how out of allllllll the possible commonalities and variables in a human's life experience is funneled down and weeded out to ONE thing causing these issues. There's just too many options and variables in my opinion to pin it on one aspect of life.
Another example, people that commute. You're sitting in your car, for hours and miles with the windows rolled up, and AC going not on recirc mode and all you're doing is breathing is vehicle exhaust in a closed space. Are these kinds of things talked about or thought about? Nope. Cuz these smarty pants people already found the scapegoats: alcohol or smoking or weed.
Estimates are just that. Based on findings, these are the estimates. Basically, they analyze a sample size and then extrapolate from there. If you want concrete exact numbers, then these authors would have to analyze every single person in the world, which is not possible, right?
It is FACT that smoking causes strokes, heart attacks, and lung/mouth/throat cancer. If you come into your doc’s office with toe fungus, i can guarantee you that no one blames that on smoking. Or Prostate cancer, not directly related to smoking. Colon cancer...not directly related. Pancreatic cancer...same. Skin cancer...same, not related.
Medical professionals don’t blame smoking on everything. Yeah, you cover your ass by saying “hypothetical”...but somehow i think that is how you actually think!
Remember, no one is blaming ALL cancers on smoking. YOU are the ONLY one suggesting that...and somehow transferring that WRONG viewpoint to the medical professional’s. I don’t understand that at all. What you think or wrote above is wrong...100% wrong. No doctor or anyone in med profession is saying that. Hypothetical or not, you need to stop thinking that way...because that is not even close to reality.
Most of the studies in big well-known journals take out other variables (e.g. oatmeal, sodas, etc) before coming to conclusion.
Hurt “almighty food industry”? I am not even sure what that even means...but i am sure the ALCOHOL and TOBACCO industries are far more powerful than Quaker (which makes your “poisonous” oatmeal)!!
As for your last example...you’re talking about carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. And yes, there are simple blood tests to determine this and extent of poisoning...so, it is very easy to see if a confused (or dead) person is like that due to CO poisoning or weed or alcohol or all three!
There are many studies on CO poisoning...in those severe cases, people die!! They don’t get cancer. And i am sure that there are threshold of CO poisoning. So, if the threshold is not reach, then there is no danger...because your blood is able to overcome a few CO molecules attaching to a few of your blood cells. Thus, there is a difference between recirc mode in open air in traffic jam vs. recirc mode inside closed garage with engine running.
I think that your erroneous viewpoints are due to you not understanding the science behind the things you brought up above.
