Alcohol and Brain Structural Damage

Drinking, smoking, drugs, fast living... Extreme sports... They'll take years off your life.

The good news is, they'll be the last years so don't hassle it.

Nooooooo!!!!

You can find anything on the internet...some of their "sources" are from irrelevant journals or partial quote from a larger study.

Love this one...from #1:

"A Mayo Clinic partnered study found that men who drank more than four 8 fl.oz. cups of coffee had a 21% increase in all-cause mortality. However, those that reported that they consumed excessive amounts of caffeine were also likely to smoke and have poor fitness."

Link? None. 21% increase!!! Wow...except that the study did not isolate caffeine from SMOKING and POOR FITNESS! Now, all of a sudden, 21% quote is about as useful as poop-flavored lollipop! :suspicious: And that is the #1 reason!! 2nd Mayo study is no where to be found on mayo site.

Just saying. What i put out on the other COFFEE thread is the latest research from large journals and thoroughly reviewed.

Yeah that was my point. Obviously ingesting any form of poison from alcohol to pot to opioids isnt "good" for you. Anything can be found to back up your own arguement and people are going to do what they're going to do. In my non scientific opinion, i think the stuff put in foods and diet sodas is way more damaging than booze and smokes. And I also think it's somewhat luck of the draw with diseases. Again, zero science. 100% opinion. And now this is on the Internet for someone else to cite to back up their own agenda.

Amazing how after all these years, i am still amazed by the level of intelligence in people i come across....:wow2:

regarding the article on alcohol use is interesting. It is so ingrained in our daily lives that any negative reference is unwelcome. I decided to stop daily doses, just occasional use and it hasn't been a big deal, but not thinkin' any better.

...any form of poison from... pot to...

Cannabis is actually somewhat of a miracle medicine and helps many people with not only varying maladies and discomfort but outright chronic pain that the sickcare system will not treat these days. I'm living proof and have 100% written-of the pathic "medical system" that has failed me over and over for almost 60 years.

There is no evidence that cannabis or "pot" is harmful other than reefer madness-esque "clinical assessments" by "credentialed professionals" and other institutionalized nonsense. The same ones that hid, and are currently hiding, autism risk of MMR vaccines from the public for decades. One example, or instance. They probably don't tell you cancer can be and is being cured with cannabis? Or baking soda? The guy that developed Dragon's Tears/Rick Simpson oil, cured his own Lymphoma with high doses of cannabis oil, many similar stories abound.

Sorry for the rant but had to reply to "pot" being called poison which couldn't be further from the truth.

Uh ok...smh...there is a thread on MJ...feel free to post your experience there.

Sorry to contest BS with facts and real world experience in your thread. SMH

This thread is about alcohol...what facts have your brought to table? Which BS in this thread are you contesting??

Drop the pipe dude and fan away the smoke...you’re not making much sense here.

LOL...whatever floats your boat dude. I even gave you a link to spew your “factoids” to the world. Have at it.

I try not to get disrespectful on the internet, it generally makes one look like a twat. I didn't know simply interjecting facts would be so polarizing for you, the other poster is the one who brought it up. Wondering if you have ever read any McKenna, etc. regarding the simple act of fermenting grain speculatively being part of human "evolution" and development itself? Alcohol is a component of human history anyway...

Now I'm genuinely curious as to why you not only seemingly have a bone to pick (apparently an emotional one to a degree) with alcohol for some reason but are so quick to devolve into being a cranky little child when someone takes part in your discussion? Should I take it personally?

Have at it?

I had to LIKE your post...because it is truly freaking delusional. You’re not making any damn sense dude! The only one taking it personally is YOU. I am just directing you to the right thread to spew your “factoids”. Got it?

Oh, and if you have a personal beef with me, then PM me. Otherwise, stay on topic.

You're spectacular darling. If there was ever a better justification for a stiff drink on these forums, you're it. Go and relax, change your panties...

Couldn't agree more. I need to clarify. I was enveloping recreational activities together in a general classification as "poison". I am a huge proponent of MJ use. I don't partake any longer for employment reasons, but it was a very useful tool.

That being said, SMOKING it (or technically anything breathed in besides air) I would consider harmful to some degree. Do the benefits outweigh the potential lung damage? I would say absolutely! But inhaling smoke is still inhaling smoke... Of course you can consume it in other ways...

I also agree that the medical profession seems to be symptom solving instead of problem solving... And MJ solving problems (even if psychosomatically) makes medical professionals scoff. Hell, even Thai said he prefers we stay sick so he stays employed. But this is Thai's thread and he has a right to posting as he wishes.

Link: https://www.forbes.com/sites/aliceg...all-deaths-globally-study-finds/#17736be96dc8

“Globally, alcohol is responsible for some 3 million deaths worldwide, which is over 5% of all deaths on the planet.

Put another way, over 7.5% of male deaths are attributable to alcohol, whereas the number is 2.5% for women. And it's even more dramatic in young people: in the 20–39 age group, 13.5% of total mortality was linked to alcohol use.

In fact, the authors estimate that excessive drinking accounts for 26% of mouth cancers, 48% of cases of liver cirrhosis, 26% of pancreatitis, 20% of tuberculosis, 11% of colorectal cancer, 5% of breast cancer, and 7% of hypertensive heart disease. They estimate that alcohol accounts for 29% of all injuries, including those from traffic accidents, interpersonal violence, and suicide.

Aside from physical disease and injury, alcohol can of course also have serious psychological and social costs, as it affects the individual and the people around him/her, and economic costs, in the form of lost work and healthcare costs.“

I'm obviously not an expert. Pretty un-respected around here as a matter of fact, but I sure see the word "estimate" getting thrown around a lot in those studies. "They estimate this much" and "estimate this percentage" sooo where do those estimates come from?

What my thought is as follows, based on a hypothetical example: if you smoke, and you go to the doctor, and have ANY disease or condition, they are likely going to blame those symptoms on smoking. Chalk it up, problem solved, it's the smoking. What funny, is that over the last few decades, cancers have risen by huge margins, yet smoking awareness and its dangers have grown hugely as well and less people smoke than ever... So all these cancers are from smoking, yet people in general smoke less... Just weird. It's almost like the medical field is grasping for any reason to solve the "why".

It's no different for alcohol. You get mouth cancer and you drank, well then it's from alcohol. But what if those same 26% or whatever also had the same brand of oatmeal for 30 years. Oatmeal that's treated with hormones, and pesticides, and process yadda yadda. You don't see them relating another common denominator now do you? No way. Cuz that would hurt the almighty food industry.

Obviously alcohol is a poison. Literally one molecule away from rubbing alcohol and methanol in either direction so it's clearly not the best choice. I just can't see how out of allllllll the possible commonalities and variables in a human's life experience is funneled down and weeded out to ONE thing causing these issues. There's just too many options and variables in my opinion to pin it on one aspect of life.

Another example, people that commute. You're sitting in your car, for hours and miles with the windows rolled up, and AC going not on recirc mode and all you're doing is breathing is vehicle exhaust in a closed space. Are these kinds of things talked about or thought about? Nope. Cuz these smarty pants people already found the scapegoats: alcohol or smoking or weed.

Estimates are just that. Based on findings, these are the estimates. Basically, they analyze a sample size and then extrapolate from there. If you want concrete exact numbers, then these authors would have to analyze every single person in the world, which is not possible, right?

It is FACT that smoking causes strokes, heart attacks, and lung/mouth/throat cancer. If you come into your doc’s office with toe fungus, i can guarantee you that no one blames that on smoking. Or Prostate cancer, not directly related to smoking. Colon cancer...not directly related. Pancreatic cancer...same. Skin cancer...same, not related.

Medical professionals don’t blame smoking on everything. Yeah, you cover your ass by saying “hypothetical”...but somehow i think that is how you actually think!

Remember, no one is blaming ALL cancers on smoking. YOU are the ONLY one suggesting that...and somehow transferring that WRONG viewpoint to the medical professional’s. I don’t understand that at all. What you think or wrote above is wrong...100% wrong. No doctor or anyone in med profession is saying that. Hypothetical or not, you need to stop thinking that way...because that is not even close to reality.

Most of the studies in big well-known journals take out other variables (e.g. oatmeal, sodas, etc) before coming to conclusion.

Hurt “almighty food industry”? I am not even sure what that even means...but i am sure the ALCOHOL and TOBACCO industries are far more powerful than Quaker (which makes your “poisonous” oatmeal)!!

As for your last example...you’re talking about carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. And yes, there are simple blood tests to determine this and extent of poisoning...so, it is very easy to see if a confused (or dead) person is like that due to CO poisoning or weed or alcohol or all three! :D

There are many studies on CO poisoning...in those severe cases, people die!! They don’t get cancer. And i am sure that there are threshold of CO poisoning. So, if the threshold is not reach, then there is no danger...because your blood is able to overcome a few CO molecules attaching to a few of your blood cells. Thus, there is a difference between recirc mode in open air in traffic jam vs. recirc mode inside closed garage with engine running.

I think that your erroneous viewpoints are due to you not understanding the science behind the things you brought up above.

It’s funny...some folks here blame pesticides and chemicals in their Oatmeal as the source of danger...but then thinks that alcohol, weed, tobacco, etc. don’t have those same things....:tape:
