alignment off on TRD Pro

anyone else take delivery of a TRD Pro that pulls to the right? My alignment has been off since my initial test drive. After 300 miles it is still the same so I finally need to get in to get the alignment fixed. Think the Toyota dealership can fix this without screwing anything up or should I take it to the local high-end alignment guys and just pay to have them fix it? I wonder if they ever did an alignment after installing the TRD Pro suspension parts.

Mine has tracked straight since the day I picked it up. I don't have to fight the steering wheel at all, and the wheel itself is aligned just fine.

Still tracks straight & I've got ~2500 miles on mine -- definitely take to the dealer and have this addressed.

If you felt your alignment was off from the initial test drive, why didn't you have that addressed prior to you taking delivery?

The TRD Pro's suspension components are installed at the factory. It will be aligned from there. I would be willing to bet that the alignment specs are the same for every trim of 4x4 4R across the board. I would have the dealer do it because there's nothing special about the alignment components on the TRD Pro.

I mentioned it to my sales person, but it wasn't reason enough for me to not buy the vehicle. I also didn't have time to have it fixed.

The TRD Pro suspension parts are installed at the port after the vehicle is built with stock suspension parts in Japan. Theoretically the port guys do an alignment after swapping the suspension parts and wheels and tires.

I would love to see some evidence of this happening. I don't think it would be very cost effective to install factory components just to have them removed at the port and replaced with TRD components.

Interesting! Thanks for pointing out the specific post. I guess the inferno red is the only guaranteed Japanese built TRDPro.

Just take it back to the dealership; you should have the first 2K on the odometer to take it back to the dealership for any alignment correction. My TE steering wheel was off center left (11 o'clock) yet pulled strong to the right. Alignment was off and wheels road force rebalanced and it fixed the pulling to the right issue. The off center steering wheel didn't get fully resolved until I got rid of the Duncraps and had Michelin AT2's installed. Weird I know but I think the Duncraps had soft sidewalls is all I can assume. AT2's also improved the steering directness.

I don't have a trd pro- just a 15 tep and my alignment was off and steering off by a few degrees. It could happen. I took mine to toyota and they fixed it right away... You should too.

As a former alignment tech, you would be surprised at how many brand new vehicles are out of spec right from the factory. Most folks don't know until they notice the tires wearing funny because the vehicle wasn't actually pulling. If there is any doubt, I recommend having your vehicle aligned even if it is brand new. If your within a certain window (mileage, time) the dealer should cover the alignment.

Are they able to easily center the steering wheel on our 4Runners, or are they like some R&P steering systems of the past where there wasn't any simple adjustment?

Our trucks are equipped with a R&P. I know there are people that think they can get a good guess by adjusting both tie rod ends evenly left to right. It's a very long and tedious process to attempt to center your steering wheel with a rack and pinion system without a proper alignment rack.

Hmmm... glad I found this thread. My TRD tracks perfectly straight on the road both when I had the Nittos and still now with the ST/Maxxs. However, my steering wheel is at 1 o'clock when driving straight. Not a huge deal, but been bugging me since day 1. Gonna take it in. I have 3200 odo and different tires, so not sure if they'll even try to help.

I had a few hours free so I decided to head to the Toyota dealership. After talking to the service manager there was no question they were going to cover the alignment under warranty. After waiting nearly an hour they told me they don't have the specs for the 2015 4runners yet and they weren't sure if the TRD Pro would have different specs so they couldn't do the alignment. I need to wait until they get updated specs for the Hunter alignment machine. Anyone think the TRD Pro will have different alignment specs or will they be the same for all the 2014 models? I wasn't 100% sure so I didn't push them to do it with the 2014 specs. Arghh....waste of time!

Try swapping some tires around and see if the pull goes away. I had a bad pull on some cheap tires that went away when moving to some michelins.

Sounds like your dealer is a waste of time. At least the service department is.

I would have asked for them to align it to the 2014 specs. Even if your truck is stock or lifted 3" caster is caster, camber is camber, and toe is toe. I would still ask the dealer to get as much caster as possible even if my truck was stock.

In their defense, I understand that they can't do this because it goes against all dealership policies. If they were to align it and print out the alignment sheet, it would say 2014 Toyota 4Runner and you would have recourse to say that they didn't do it to factory 2015 specs. An intelligent service writer would have discussed this option with you and given you a choice. But that's generally the kind of service you can only expect from an independent shop or a good service writer at a dealership.

^^^ it's not up to a service writer, the manufactures will not pay their dealerships for a warranty repair not done "correctly"

If the dealership is unable to perform warranty service correctly, I'd think they should be doing what they can to prevent further wear and tear due to this issue. If they will cover it under warranty, they should be giving a rental while it sits for 1 week, 1 month, 5 months, etc (until the "correct" specs are released). Or maybe they should buy back/replace the ruined tires after driving another 100 miles, 1000 miles, or 10000 miles with incorrect alignment....

The specs for a 2015 TRD Pro have already been released. The OP's dealership hasn't gotten the update for their Hunter alignment machine. It's possible Hunter hasn't updated their programming yet.

But a good dealership will do what it takes to take care of their customer. Especially if the truck was bought there.
