All new fluids

Well when my next paycheck rolls around, I plan on changing all the fluids to Mobil 1. I really want Amsoil, but I need to change the fluids now, and don't have enough money for Amsoil.

So heres my list.

Front Diff - 3 pints
75W-90

Rear Diff - 6.5 Pints
75W-90

Trans Case - 3 Pints
75W-90

Engine - 5.5 quarts
5W-20

Also which Mobil 1 do you think is best?

And one more question. I also need to change my trans fluid. Does Mobil 1 has a syn for that? TIA.

Also, I plan on making a write-up for the help of others because I didn't see one when I searched.

For the V6
5.25 quarts without oil filter.
5.5 quarts with oil filter.
5w-30 orignally, 5w-20 recommended in April 2006 or so.

Toyota WS (world standard) ATF fluid for transmissions without dipsticks.

Your truck will be happy with those lubes. like you, i haved swithed to amsoil (Front, Rear Diffs, and engine oil).

Thanks Uneek. I do have a dipstick on the trans so would that be a different fluid?

Also, I might go with LUCAS gear oil, is that good or worse than Mobil 1?

And I might go with Mobil 1 tranny fluid, is this okay too?

Thanks for that aajjaaron. So this is my conclusion so far.

Front Diff - 3 pints
75W-90 - Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube

Rear Diff - 6.5 Pints
75W-90 - Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube

Trans Case - 3 Pints
75W-90 - Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube
^7 quarts total
Change interval: ???

Engine (V6) - 5.5 quarts
5W-20 - Mobil 1 Extended Performance
Change interval: 15k

ATF - Mobil ATF 3309 (I think) 14 quarts
Change interval: ???

It would be the Toyota T-IV (T4) ATF. I'm not sure on the number of quarts. I think there's a substitute for T-IV fluid though. Only the WS fluid doesn't have a substitute yet.

Oh and coolant wise, 2004+ is using Toyota Super Long Life Coolant (SLLC) and pink in color (ready mixed from the dealer), good for 100k miles from the factory fill, 50k change interverals there after. 2003 uses Toyota Long Life Coolant (LLC) and red in color (concentrate from the dealer, needs to be mixed), not certain about the change intervals with LLC.

Thanks for the info Uneek. Mobil 1 ATF 3309 is indeed a synthetic for Toyota's T-IV. I checked the coolant and it looks fine, but I plan on replacing it at 80k or so, can never be too sure. This weekend I hopefully won't have to work so I can get started on changing the fluids. I'm concerned about the tranny though. About 3,500k ago I took it in and they said I needed to do a power flush and when asked how much it was, it was about 350, plus I'm only like 2k away from 60k and last time we didn't get the 30k maint. done until almost 45k. So I was quoted more than 700 for all their services. Really thats like, alot of money we don't have, hell I don't think anybody has the money for something as little as a 60k check-up. Tomorrow I'm heading down to AutoZone to pick up as much as I can afford, which should be all of the fluid. And then on the weekend I'll do my first oil, tranny, diffs, and xfer case change. yay! Probably will help with MPG a bit, don't ya think?

Also, how long do you think I should go inbetween changes with the new tranny fluid, xfer case fluid and diff. fluid? 50k? 45k? TIA.

I change all the fluids (trans, transfer case, both diffs, & coolant) at 30,000 mile intervals. I do not have the super-duper world tranys fluid stuff.

I also siphon out power steering & brake fluid at weird intervals (like when I feel like it)

I just changed my Diff's and Trans. case oils over the weekend.

I used:

Rear diff: almost 3 quarts (6 pint) 80w 90 Valvoline Synthetic.

Front diff: approx. 2.5 quarts (5 pint) 80w 90 Valvoline Synthetic.

Trans case: approx 2 quarts (4 pint) 75w 90 Mobil 1 synthetic

Yay. Well did some of the stuff yesterday. First is did the T-case, and holy balls, that was really easy. Then I brought it to toyota to loosen the rear diff. fill plug, they took a pretty big hammer to it, and then to loosen the front diff fill and drain plugs, which they couldn't do. So how the hell can i loosen the drain and fill plug in the front? Any ideas?

Also the rear diff had quite a bit of metal on the drain plug, I was surprised.

Do not WD-40 as it is not a penetrating fluid. Use PB-blaster, Liquid Wrench, or similar.

But this is tricky. If the shop or dealer can not remove the plug then one may assume that it might not be rust that is holding it in but there is the a chance that it might be cross threaded at the factory. If so, then once removed it would have to be bored out and re-tapped or Heli-coiled. Just a thought.

No the dealer could do it, for a price. Which is BS. If it was cross threaded at the factory i will make toyota pay for it.

All of my fill and drain plugs were tight, but I was able to get them loose using a socket wrench and a section of 1" pvc pipe I had laying around. The extra leverage was just enough. My drain plug also had some metal sludge on it, but no big shavings. I assume from what I read that this is normal.
