After a month of debate I've finally lifted my 2nd 4Runner since I purchased my first almost 10 years ago. I know a lot of the more serious off road types dislike Fabtech but I went with it just because of warranty her locally vs. shipping in the Sonoran kit. Here is how it broke down:

  • 2" 4Crawler bodylift
  • 17"x9" Eagle wheels
  • 295/70/17 Nitto Terra Grappler tires
  • Nerf bars

I'm pretty happy with it overall. The black rims were a last minute switch from the Eagle polished wheels I had been eying for the last 8 years. I figured I needed to go with something a little more "new" school. One one gripe so far is that the offset could have been a bit more. It' pretty tight around the control arm but I guess it'll be ok. I think I can still put on spacers no?

I'd still like to do a few things but all in good time. I took off the chrome fender trim and I'd like to get some factor flares painted to match. I need a new exhaust, I'd like a bull bar and some other things. Anyway...

Looks good, now you need some:

-Clear Corners
-Clear Signal Lens
-LED Tails

Well, you don't need them but they'd make your 4Runner look even better! :bigok:

that looks nice. Did you need any extensions for anything when you installed the body lift? Could you provide a parts list of what you needed to complete the body lift?

Spacers will run about $200 for all four.

How do you like those tires?

So far I like them a lot. They are quiet and have a nice look. I wanted the BFGs but they didn't come in that size or they didn't have them at the time. Plus they were a lot less.

So the truck failed inspection last week because I had a crack in the passenger headlight. I took the bad news and turned it into a chance to go with the new style 99'. I got some aftermarket ones and they look awesome. The don't seem to site as fluch but I'm thinking I'll add some washers behind the mount points on the inside to pull them out about 1/8" - 1/4".

3 years later! Haha update us with some whole truck pics so we can see if this rig has changed at all in the time you've been absent.

looks good. what about the 1/4'' spacers from wheelers?

I assume you are referring to how tight the wheels were against the control arm. This isn't really a build thread, I just tacked this on today as I didn't want to start a new thread just for the lights. I install 1" spacers awhile back so the truck has a wider stance now. I'm not sure if I posted anything about that here before. Sorry, I haven't really kept up with it.

I know.. crazy right? I can't believe this thread wasn't locked. These are really the only recent ones I have: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/general-discussions/96283-19th-annual-virginia-fwda-trail-ride.html

My biggest hate right now is the CV joint angle with the lift. I have been driving on them torn for about 2 years lol. I want to invest in something else but this thing is starting to fall apart and I'm thinking sell it and my GTI about getting a Tacoma or something. Both vehicles are fun but neither is very practical.

I also on trail once in awhile and I work at home so I don't need the GTI for a nicer commute anymore. A pick up would still let me have some customization fun but give me more utility and 4 doors for the kids on a crew cab. If I life the Tacoma I'd consider doing that whole drop bracket kit or something to not kill the joints. I dunno what to do really.

Anyone want to suggest an asking price if I were to sell it locally? I need to fix a few things but I don't know.... $6800? This isn't a daily driver and it needs someone that can work on it like me. I rebuilt the starter, replaced the cv joints, replaced the spacers with springs and continue to do a lot of work on it myself. You have to in order to own something like this I feel... Here are the issues with it that I know of:

  • Valve covers are leaking a bit and I need to reseal it soon.
  • Ball joints are shot
  • CV joints are shot... again and will be shortly after again due to the angle
  • Needs a new exhaust from front to back IMHO. Passed inspection for it but it's rusted and beat up
