All sport owners- Sunroof question

Do you all have a wind deflector in front of your sunroof? I just bought an 07 Sport and it has a wind deflector that was obviously installed by the previous owner. I'm not sure if I like the looks of that or not. My question to is do you have one on yours and if you do or dont, what is your opinion about them? Do they serve any purpose?

they serve a very big purpose. they dramatically cut down on wind noise and buffeting. but they do block a big portion of the sunroof itself. i took mine off shortly after buying my 4runner used. i have solved the buffeting problem by rolling the tailgate window down slightly whenever i open the sunroof. cuts down on noise and eliminates the buffeting completely, it also lets a nice slight breeze flow through the cabin.

I don't have a Sport but I have a sunroof. I have a cheap aftermarket visor that I installed. I agree with everything SecretAgent said, I love it and wouldn't go without. I actually use my sunroof a lot more frequently now.

The use of double sided sticky tape still baffles me. I know GM Bumpers were held on via the double tape back in the 80's.

Nope, and the sunroof has a built in wind deflector that pops up when you open it. Ive never used an aftermarket so I cant comment on any benefit or detraction they might provide.

they also go down automatically a little bit when you are above 60mph and go back up if below...

When I bought my T4R, I actually got the dealer to throw in a deflector.

Problem is that Toyota does not offer a deflector as an accessory, so I never got it.

There is a built in deflector that adjusts in height depending on what speed you are going.

If you have the moonroof open and the rear hatch window down, that's some serious cool breeze during the spring/summer.

I always drop this the hatch window down whenever another SUV is behind me when it's warm. It makes them jealous that their SUV doesn't have the same feature.

I do the same:bigok: I make sure to not miss the opportunity if I see a dog in the other SUV

I have a weathertech deflector on mine, and it made a big difference on wind noise. Before I had it, you couldn't even open the sunroof because it was just so loud, and almost hurt your years. The stock one that goes up/down just doesn't work as well as the aftermarket ones. Mine doesn't use any doublestick tape either, it uses clamps.

Now I can have my sunroof open going down the freeway, and it's pretty quiet.

Having an aftermarket moon roof deflector is good and bad.

The good is that it reduces the noise in the cabin.

The bad is that the flow of air over the car causes air to be pulled from the cabin such a way that it creates an almost vacuum in the cabin, especially in highway speeds.

In any regard, whenever I have the moonroof open, I usually either drop the rear passenger side window a bit, or open the hatch window a bit. That actually serves to improve air circulation in the vehicle.

I had deflectors on my 2nd and 3rd gens but not on my 4th gen. I believe that the internal deflector on the 4th gen works almost as well as having the external deflector did on my other T4R's. Also, I've noticed that the buffeting mentioned is more pronounced when the sunroof is 100% open. Just bump it closed an inch or 2 and the buffeting is greatly reduced or eliminated.
