I have gotten so many mixed reviews from running through this forum and wanted to ask for my individual needs. I drive 95% on highway and 5% in sand and dirt. I kinda like to think of my 4runner as a weekend prerunner. Which tire is best in terms of quietness and smoothness while performing in the sand. I don't have to deal with rain or snow much.

Gonna throw an off-the-wall suggestion that can save you a ton of money. Read up on the Kumho Road Venture AT51s. My personal experience, quiet, reasonably easy on gas for an AT tire and are pretty darn decent in sand. I run 265/75R16s...they are my daily drivers(I have dedicated winter tires) and they have been really good in the snow as well.

All-Terrain tires span a huge range between Highway Tread (HT/All Season) and full-on Mud Tires (MT). If your driving description is correct, then you want something on the HT end, or even just stick with a good All Season tread.
Personally, I ran my stock Duellers until they were bald, and they always worked great in sand/dirt/gravel. Kinda sucked in mud, but 4WD/ATRAC always managed to pull me through when I tried something stupid. I eventually replaced them with store-brand Cooper AT3s so I could explore more out-of-the-way hunting areas.
So my advice for your driving description is to either get a good All Season tire rated M+S (or M/S) for the best gas mileage and tread-life warranty, or maybe get an AT tire closer to the HT end of the spectrum. The Kumho's mentioned by Thor would meet that criteria, or something like the Michelin LTX AT2 (best mileage warranty, basically a slightly aggressive highway tread) or Firestone Destination AT.

I wish Cooper still made the ATR, because that would be perfect for you. I got around 60k from a set on my land cruiser, and they were a wonderful tire on and off the road. My dad has AT3's on his tundra, and I like those a lot, but they may be a bit more aggressive than what you need. They are super quiet with wonderful road manners though, and he has about am hour commute every day and they have worn great thus far. I did see several cooper's that i havent heard anything about recently in their flyer, like the Adventurer and Discoverer RTX that both seemed like decent tired to fit your bill. I would second the Michelin though, those things seem to literally last forever in my experience

Maybe slightly more aggressive than you are looking for. Initial reviews are positive, just got a set and I'm in pressed so far. Haven't taken it offroad, but on-road they are quiet and grip well. They look meaty as well.

i would suggest looking at Nitto Terra Grapplers (now G2 version). Good looking tire. Quiet, smooth and great handling on road and pretty good offroad for sand and dirt.
Ran mine to about 80K w/ tread left. I've gone through 2 sets.
Went with Cooper AT3s now since i want a more dedicated AT tire

I can't speak for sand, but I can recommend Hankook Dynapro ATM's for everything else. They're super light (P rated) so they keep your gas mileage up, and they're pretty quiet. ( I have heard they'll get louder after about 30K miles; I have less than 10K on mine) They certainly look better than the Michelins, and should save you some cash too. My $0.02.

I'm a guy that's been through so many different vehicles and tires on any terrain you can imagine for the past 15 years I've been driving 4x4s as a daily driver. Without hesitation, I run the BFG AT all the time now. My experience with the new KO2 design is very little, as I just slapped those on my rig less than 100 miles ago.

I was going to say the same thing.
I used to drive on the beaches of NC (soft sand) just about every other weekend for about 10 years. The preferred tire of choice was the BFG A/T. From us locals to the cops/life guards.
I personally think they wear kinda fast but still did slightly better than the Nittos. I've grown to really dislike nitto after my experience with the old style terra grapplers, and the trail grapplers (Ram 1500).
Super quiet!
But I'm now a huge fan of Cooper/Mickey Thompson. Their new tires are fkin great.

What do you dislike about Nitto? I was pretty much sold on the G2Terra Grappler for similar use as the OP, but thrown in snow & ice & some light orr-road trails.
By Mickey Thompson, do you mean the Baja? I wonder how that will do in the snow & ice. I’ll also look into BFG AT’s. Def don’t want the KOS though becuase it’s an E rated & I’d like P-metric.

When I lived on the east coast, my only concern was rain, sand, and mud. It didn't snow but maybe twice a year, around February...
So the nittos.. I had the old style a/t on a frontier. After about 500 miles, they sounded like a m/t. Lol this doesnt bother me though, I like loud. ..But an a/t shouldn't be loud. They lasted me about a year.. Maybe 20k.
(I usually don't let my tires get below 50% before swapping them out for some new tread.)
Then I went to bfg a/t and I was so shocked at the difference I swore to never go back to nitto. It was like riding on air, super quiet, and out perforformed in the sand. I rarely had to air down. Mud, not so much... They dont clean well.
Fast forward.. I got the Nitto/Toyo trail grapplers (4th gen Ram 1500) and I got rid of them around 800 miles. They would pull left, hard time getting them balanced, super hard compound (that will chunk like a mofo) and overpriced for what it is. Some guys love them.. They just had a better experience than me.
Now Cooper has redesigned their tires to be the best there is. I only buy m/t but their a/t are made the same.
The handling is on point, they have siping, they're designed to be aired down off road, they have a new compound and side wall toughness..
But thats more of a commercial, heres my experience, they aren't loud enough lol.. They handle like a car tire on the road, they look better, they balanced perfectly on the first go around and there's zero pull after ever rotation (every 1000 miles for me)... No chunking on the rock where my buddies toyos look like piano keys.
Not much rain out here in socal, or snow, or mud lol... But they do good on rocks and the highway.
Again, these are m/t. Id try and find 1 bad review about their new a/t tires. Probably wont.
(I realize this is an a/t thread, just answering that specific question.. If I were to go back to an a/t it would be bfg or a cooper/mickey thompson tire.)

If you drive in snow, check out the Cooper Discoverer AT/W. Seems to be have all of the features & benifits of the AT/3 but it's rated well in the snow.
They're my next tire. I'm looking for 285s and their are limited models of ATs p rated. The Coopers and Nittos are, many other well rated ATs are not. I understand why people prefer E rated for off road. For my use, the down sides of E out weigh the Benifits of P.
