(Alleged) Addicted OffRoad Poor Costumer Service

JWaldz can we move this crap to the General Discussion section?

This clearly has nothing to do with 3rd Gen's, and has turned into a thread for members to ***** at a vendor. Although this started as a 3rd Gen bumper issue it clearly has nothing to do with that.

Rather than completely ripping a vendor in a Gen specific forum this would be better placed in a forum that is not Gen specific.

I think the issue is that he was quoting 4-8 weeks and it is taking 20+ weeks and not answering his emails or phone. When you drop $800+ for a product and you are expecting it within a certain time frame it gets bad when you stop answering your customers. His lead times were well over double what he was quoting. I understand stuff comes up in lift, but there are ways to mitigate what is going on. Going dark doesn't help business. Now I think he makes an amazing bumper, and I would buy one. But I am not pleased with his wait times, so I am probably going to go with a local fab shop.

Even in Ryder's case, it wasn't 20 weeks. And, two weeks of that was him wanting me to wait to ship it until he got back into town. He didn't want it sitting on his porch while he was gone.

Honestly don't have a dog in this fight and I really like your work and your shop. I recommend your bumper to people asking, I am just going off what I have heard. I understand you are small shop and things take awhile, I would buy your bumper if I was able to judge when I needed it better. Keep up the good work, you have a great reputation, I wa just explaining why some people were upset.

And seeing as how the vendor in question is active in the thread providing much better customer service than most supporting vendors would, could we change the title for him? Or at least stick an [alleged] in there or something?

Scotty is getting way more flack in here than he deserves. Let the man go make your bumpers, people. :deadhorse:

No kidding!

What I don't understanding is how being in an accident, and asking for a new crossmember turns into a thread about leadtimes for bumpers.

Ironically, the flack is coming from people who have never ordered anything from me, but have a problem with that fact that I don't sell a mounting crossmember for a DIY build. lol

Why not come up to the shop sometime and see what we do first hand. Maybe that will help to see what is going on in person.

I'd guess that it evolved because there have been a few threads about that recently that never received any attention.

I cannot help but feel like I opened this can of worms with my call out on page 1.

My bad.

I'd run the hell out of an AOR front bumper, I just cannot stomach that lead time.

What's done is done. I don't think you did anything wrong, and you most likely only beat someone else to it.

Hell, I told Park to contact them on here on the 7th. Instead he created this thread on the 9th.

I run Scotty's front plate and sliders on my rig and personally for the quality of work that he puts out it's worth the time. My front bumper went on absolutely perfect with no modifications or persuading at all. It's rare that aftermarket parts fit so well. I have seen Scotty in action and stopped by his shop several times, he is a true enthusiast of the offroad community. When you take into account that he has like 3-4 people working for him and look at everything going on in the shop you can understand that they aren't just standing around doing nothing. Everyone is going to have complaints about something, no one manufacturer can make a part that suits every person, that's reality, that's why we have so many options for aftermarket with these rigs. The quality is there no question and I know first hand, did I have to wait, yes, was it worth it? Absolutely. I get so many compliments on the bumper and it's nice to be able to tell people yeah, Addicted Off-road built it, they are right down the road.

If you want awesome customer service and someone who is very active within the Toyota 4x4 community, you need to check out Trailworx.

https://www.facebook.com/TrailworxFab/

Dave does great work, plus he is a sponsor at the Toyota Jamboree if any of you went last year.

I was there in my FJ

: )

Parker(OP) has been taken care of.

Scotty thanks for getting my bumper order in. Not trying to get you negative publicity.

For anyone looking for a bumper AOR makes a great product. The Steel that they use is harder and stronger than my other bumpers. My Savage rear bumper (which I give 5 stars) uses a softer steel than Scottys products. I know this because I had to drill out the holes on my light tabs when I got the bumper. I also had to drill holes into the Savage to mount my CB radio. The AOR bumper killed my diamond drill bit.

I will probably be getting sliders from you guys when the time comes.

I still recommend Addicted Offroad.

I've dealt with Scott on several occasions, and am a current owner of one of his products. I have also had the pleasure of just hanging around a campfire with him and shooting the breeze.

The product that I purchased from Addicted came at a discount thanks to the fact that I had a winning ticket for a raffle at the Addicted Jamboree in CO (which is a whole other discussion, but basically every year Addicted puts on an awesome family event that requires a lot of effort and time on their part, and does so just for the sake of bringing customers and enthusiasts together).

The lead time on my product was longer than estimated, but I didn't complain, being that I was getting a healthy discount. Nonetheless, my bumper arrived with a considerable flaw, and I contacted Scott to work it out. To sum it up, Scott was the model of accountability. He took care of me just as he would somebody who paid full price for the bumper.

You can also see evidence of that accountability in his responses to this thread.

will admit, that my email and phone response was very lacking during the last month or so. Its been hard to get to every email and phone call. However, that is all on me. I won't bore you with semantics or excuses. What I will do, and have always done, is deliver on every bumper/slider/order that we have. We have been running behind on turn times, that is obvious. We are in the process of cutting turn times asap.

FWIW, this isn't an excuse, as I should have been able to juggle all of it. People don't care about this stuff when they were told a turn time and its over that time. They just want their bumper, and I understand........

Needless to say, Ryder is somewhat right about our customer service during the last few months. Its has been definitely lacking, but I will get that sorted out immediately as I will now have more time to spend in the shop again.

So, if you want a plate bumper or tube bumper, you have my word that I will get it done ASAP. But, just so you know: There are times where I will turn the ringer off on my phone during the day as well. Otherwise, I will never be able to get anything done in the shop. The days of 10 calls in a day are over. We receive 50+ calls a day, easily. So, some days you will need to leave a voicemail and be patient for a day until I can get back to you.

What more can you ask from the guy?

He's a human being and he makes mistakes, but he always OWNS those mistakes. When there is a problem with a product, I can promise you that Scott is every bit as upset about it as the customer who received it. The man is all about quality control and making sure that the products with his name on them are up to a certain standard. Sometimes that complicates the process. For me, it brings to mind the old saying about good, cheap, and fast.

I have dealt with other companies, also run by humans, who made mistakes in building the products that I purchased from them. One in particular is a direct competitor to Addicted, and that company certainly did not own their mistakes. They essentially told me to "deal with it". That mistake cost them any and all future business from me, and has resulted in an ongoing stream of negative references from me to anyone who asks me about the company.

To wrap this up... I think every that every one of these fab shops experiences the same challenges (materials sourcing, personnel, quality control, managing delays from outsourced processes, etc.). The difference is in how they deal with those problems, and whether they remain accountable to their customers.

It may take him awhile, but I've never seen or heard of Scott leaving somebody hanging. You never see a thread where he told someone to "deal with it". He always gets it fixed, be it sooner or later. To me, that's accountability, that's follow through, and that's doing the best you can with the tools and resources that you have.

I fixed the title for AddictedOffroad and will move this thread tonight at 10pm est. although this has become a vender defending his lead times it has created a chance for him to converse with people who may have a negative opinion on his company.
