almost bought a 3rd gen...

the 4wd issue sounds to me like two different gear ratios... like 4.10s and 4.30s. i had this issue with mine a while back. its not big enough to cause damage if driven in 4wd on the pavement, but it sure as hell makes getting into and out of 4wd difficult and makes driving a chore, especially maintaining and getting to speed, its like you are fighting the truck the entire time -actually you are. but yeah id guess it has two different ratios, one in each diff. probably as a result of some shotty repairs and or someone doing a band-aid fix to get it back on the road.

its funny you should say that. after I spoke with the General manager the other day he mentioned something about the 4wd system had been replaced at some point

Yeah that dealer and that 4runner sound to me like nothing but trouble... If a dealer cant fix or repair something correctly then I would not be waisting my time with them especially when you have been treated as you have. Good for you, and I would probably do the same thing you are doing, for going and complaining to higher and highers until you are satisfied. But that ever you do, I would not do any business with them even if it was free that they were gonna comp it to you... That just gives them a chance to F your vehicle up and get you to come back and make money on you
