Alpine Type S Help

I just installed Alpine Type S 6x9 in my 2007 SR5 with an upgraded Scion t1809 headunit. The magnet in the original speaker was the smallest thing I've ever seen. The magnet in the Alpine was much much larger so I was expecting more throw and overall sound. However, after installing one speaker, sitting in the car, and changing the fader from left to right, I found that the original speaker was much louder and had more bass. Does anyone have any explanation for this or anything I can do to improve it? Needless to say, I am pretty frustrated and I'm not sure what is wrong here. Thanks in advance.

reversed polarity maybe? I know when I installed a speaker in my first car it was the same way, I had no Idea about anything, I just plugged it in. Then I tried switching the wires and it was a monster speaker. Good luck, and let us know what happens

I tried switching it too. No luck. I am going to try for a better seal between the speaker and the door. I think that may make a difference.

Aside from sealing, Check if the magnet clears the metal door parts in the back.

Also, oem speakers usually have higher sensitivity, which means they will produce more sound at lower power output. This is designed to compensate for the normally weak power ratings of the oem headunits. Aftermarket speakers have slight lower sensitivity bec they are usually meant to be driven at higher power levels with an amp. DoeSnt mean the oem sounds better though.

watts is the word everyone is missing

the word watt means the amount of work that the electronic is able to do. so what im saying is you need more watts. most HU only push 7 to 9 watts. not the 45x4 that they all say they will. the new speakers you have will sound better if you give them the juice they need. try a small alpine or even a sony explode if you want to go cheap. go with a 200x4 that will make it sound great. and if you have any more questions feel free to PM me. and so you know i am i mecp tec. i went to school to work on car audio so im not just blowing smoke. good luck!
