Alternative Bilstein front shocks

I've been waiting for months for the 4Runner specific 24-248730's to come back in stock and just found out it's going to at least another 2 months before they come in and being in Canada doesn't help . What is available are the Tundra 24-261425 and Tacoma 24-249928. I plan to run the 881/890 springs. I've been reading posts for months and from what I gather the Tundras are too stiff and Tacoma are too soft so I'm hung up on which I should get. Can anyone give me some advice or experience on which would work best for a daily driver with occasional off roading but nothing extreme just camping/fishing trips on forestry roads. I guess my main concern would be on road comfort. It's been so frustrating waiting that I'm close to just throwing in a set of KYB's and call it a day. It's an 02 with 100K if that matters.

Read my posts in the link below, I describe my experience with the 4runner specific ones after about 40k miles. I do the off-roading you described with occasional heavier/more technical stuff and I HATE these shocks on-road. 100% would not buy again. If I could do it all over again I would get KYB or OEM

The one thing I’ll say is I had a 97 Tacoma with a really stiff ride and now my 4runner has a mildly soft ride. Would recommend soft over stiff IMO, plus the 4runner is a little closer to the weight of a Tacoma than a tundra.

Totally satisfied with the KYB’s I installed 20K miles ago with new factory springs on my 02 SR5 daily driver.

i replaced my shocks about 2 months ago. i dont do any off roading, my rig is totally stock and they have been great.

Bilstein 6112 is surely the best value out there. The standard springs for road first and the stiffer springs for more serious offroad use.

Totally agree. Love my 6112/5160 combo. I thrash my 4runner pretty hard though. Maybe check with wheelers off-road, but I’ll bet everyone is out of stock.

Ya know, KYB is good stuff if your not lifting it and don’t mind a twin tube. If your a mild off-roader it would work great for you. If you lift it, may as well go OME if Bilstein is unavailable and you don’t want to wait.

Availability sucked back in February. I can only imagine how dumb it is now.

They are almost $200 more than 4wheelparts for the same shocks. I contacted them about their lowest price guarantee and they just kept making excuses. I provided the necessary proof and he stopped arguing and said he would ask the owner. Never heard back from them after several emails. Either way the shocks are cheaper on Amazon with free shipping plus these guys are raising their prices 10% in Jan. Comes across as very shady and I will never do business with them.

I bought a set of 6112 from them in 2019, price was competitive after factoring in exchange rate and shipping/duties, no problems....
