Lol @ anyone recommending Subaru.

They are the biggest hunk of garbage to come out of Japan right next to Nissans which at least has a better driving experience. Please do not do OP dirty like that. Personally knowing Subaru techs, they have so much engine replacement warranty claims that they are backlogged 1-2 months and it's never ending. That goes for all of their vehicles, Imprezas, Outbacks, BRZs, Ascent, WRXs (no surprise).

If I wanted to stick with a 4runner would personally just get a brand new 2023 ORP and don't look back. You get updated tech and the same reliability of your 2016 but in a nicer trim. It's a super subjective question IMO.

I on the other hand am a cheap bastard so I would take the money and get something either cheaper like a 4th gen or brand new would look at a CRV or a CX-50.

Agree about the Subaru. My wife's Nissan just died at 190K (needs $5800 in repairs and that ain't happening.) She was very interested in a Subaru Outback and I gently nudged her away from it...especially the turbo XT version she was wanting.

She ended up placing an order for a 2024 Camry. It won't be the most exciting car but it also won't kill us with repair bills.

my father had a 2003 camry he bought brand new. that was one of our family vehicles for almost 18 years. the only problem I remember was the exhaust had to be replaced - I really don't remember it ever needing any large repairs. he sold it in perfect working condition for an SUV when he started traveling more for work. had somewhere between 300k to 400k km on it when he sold it. the new camrys look really nice, good decision

I’m surprised to hear people that have negative opinions on Subaru. My wife bought one in 2001. Money wise it’s the best car we ever bought. We spent so little money on it over the years. It has 200,000 miles now and we still have it but now it’s my daughter’s car. Maybe the newer cars aren’t built as well as the new ones? I love Subarus and think they are a fine car but I love my 4Runner a whole lot more! If it were me I would replace it with another 4Runner.

Modern Subarus have done pretty well. They (finally) engineered out the headgasket issues in all of their commodity products by 2015. We own a 2023 Outback (naturally aspirated 2.5L) and consider it a phenomenal vehicle.

They offer tremendous value. You can factory order, not having to pay for anything you don't want, and you can get a solid dealer discount on them as well. Nobody will give you more quality all-wheel drive vehicle than Subaru. REAL all-wheel drive, not front wheel drive based "on demand" shit-tastic systems like RAV4's, CRV's, etc.

I actually like the Subaru Outback with the old 3.6? V6 engine that they canned in 2019 or so. It's the new under-powered gas and turbo XT Outbacks that I don't care for.

That's just me. I don't hate Subaru...neither does Toyota. That's why they own 15% of the automaker.:nod:
