Sorry to hear about the theft of your 4Runner. I’m curious to know how it was stolen? Was there a simple measure that could have been done to prevent the theft?

If you really liked your 4Runner, and would continue to drive another 5th gen, I would get another one. Preferably a new ORP or a good deal on a used, no rust, low mileage, one owner vehicle. Best of luck.

VA sales tax is terrible at 4.15%.

Gotten the dealer down to 3500 below MSRP on a sweet LE, but with tax that’s still like 52ish, maybe a little more.

But after browsing multiple lots, I’ve had my eye on an ORP with KDSS. So I keep going back and fourth. While the ORP is a little cheaper, the deal below MSRP is better on the LE. also I have zero need for OR features, limited more than sufficient, but the OR is soo Sharp.

Getting tired of looking just going flip a coin at this point and move on with life.

I have some experience with stolen cars. Over the years I have lost five.
The cars were recovered with minor damage. the two trucks were Total loses.

I agree its a sh"""ty feeling and you question yourself " Did I park it someplace else?"
It does not matter if you have an alarm or not. I just had my Cat. stolen off my work truck in my Driveway last spring. Lights, Cameras it didn't matter they are bold.

4.15% sale tax is nothing. California is 7.5% ( Los Angeles county is 9.5%)

With all the disasters lately, I would want to Buy New. You never know if the truck was in a flood. Sometimes CarFax won't show this if the insurance company was not involed in the recovery.

My beloved 2016 SR5 premium was stolen in the alley behind my girlfriends townhouse exactly one month ago. Apparently insurance companies wait 21 days to start the claim because 70% of stolen vehicles are recovered. 30 days later and I haven't gotten paid yet, hopefully this week. The adjuster is giving me roughly $30K.

Anyway, I come here for advice on replacement options. I can technically afford just about any T4R but I never thought I'd buy a 50K vehicle, my 2016 was 37ish.

If you guys were in my shoes, what would you get? I've been out of the car/4runner shopping game a long time.

I kind of do what to get something nice like a LE.

Are people really paying high forties for a SR5 Premium and >50K for a LE. If they are, does it make sense to buy used?

Any suggestions is appreciated. Oh its use will be DD, road trips and driving on the beach occasionally.

If Subaru has not fixed their quality issues in the last 20 years steer clear. I sent a mechanic’s daughter to college getting two different Subarus fixed. Asked the mechanic a few years ago about the head gaskets and he said the new ones had the same issue.

They are pretty bullet proof to 80k miles, then head gaskets, wheel bearings, radiators, CV joints, A/C and crap I don’t remember. You’d fix it and then 6 months later something else would go out. Easy $2k year in fixes on each of cars that had been babied.

Never an issue like that on any Toyota I have owned going back to the 70s.

No more Subarus.

He's flat wrong. Being a mechanic doesn't make one magically right on all opinions spoken.

The new generation engines, FA and FB series, do not have headgasket problems any more than the background population of all engines. It took them forever, but they engineered that known problem out starting around 2015 with the introduction of these engines. If you have a newer WRX STI with an old EJ series engine, that's a different story.

We pay around 7.25% sales tax on all new AND used cars here in Utah. Really get gouged. My 2023 ORP was like $3,000 in sales tax.

Worse in Arizona, 8% plus generally depending on what city you're in.

And to add insult to injury, vehicle licensing tax hits you to the tune of almost another $1000 a year to start on a vehicle when it is new (assuming a $50K+ MSRP).

This is a good deal right? Anything I should double check, it’s a new limited, doesn’t have many options but that’s the case for LEs right ?

I test drove another LE and there was vibration/slight wobble at highway speeds so I avoided it. My previous 5th gen SR5 was flawless, zero issues in 7 years and still a pleasure to drive and ride in all this time later.

Also test drove an ORP, and it was fine and looked sharper than the LE, but I like driving the LE more. It’s such a nice vehicle and im afraid some idiot will run into it.

Anyway how is this deal ? Is the MSRP 51.4 or 53.7? are they giving it to me for 3500 below Msrp??

I'm not sure where you have $1941 of port installed options/accessories on that vehicle, but that's the reason your price is up to $53761 (I assume the -$1000 is that weird Keep it Wild savings Toyota has had on these to create an illusion of giving you money off ).

With a $50261 quoted sales price, you are coming in at least ~$2300 below "MSRP" I'd say. It's hard to not get some port installed options on these vehicles as a lot of them seem to be ordered with them (I'm assuming that Preferred Owners Portfolio is where the majority of your cost is but I am not familiar with that line item having not gone through a purchase on one of these in about 4 years).

I just bought a 2022 4 runner premium and I paid 42k for it with 12,000 miles it sucks that the prices on these like everything else has gone up so much, but I'm not sure what else compares to it in the same class. Mostly everything today has a sub frame, I like the feeling knowing that I have a true steel frame under me. Unless you move up to a bigger suv like a gm but who wants to spend 100k for something that won't last as long as a toyota (providing no one steals it) joking..... good luck on your search

Port Installed Accessories are just dealer add on as a way to bump up their profits. You rarely get your money worth out of them. They will try to tell you that you can’t opt out of it. Then tell them “We don’t have a deal” and start to walk. They will usually change their tune.

Recently I’ve been watching a father and son team on YouTube called “Car Edge” that teaches you how to get the best deal. The father was a car salesman for 25 years. Here is their YouTube channel.

All comes down to supply and demand as you mention. You need to be willing to walk if the dealer won't budge though and sometimes they'll call you back in a couple days when the car is still sitting there.

There seems to be a transition period taking place as the market is cooling now where you are seeing a lot less "accessories" added onto vehicles sitting on dealer lots. This was a money maker for a lot of dealers in lieu of or in addition to adjusted dealer mark-up while vehicles were in shortage during 2021 through early 2023.

I think dealerships are realizing they need to cut this out to move cars again. For instance, I pretty much refuse to pay for nitrogen filled tires. What a crock of you know what.

Yeah, those port installed options are completely removable. The 4Runner I had on order came with three port options and I told the dealer to remove all three of them They didn't even blink and sent me an updated spec sheet with them magically gone.
