Alternative to Fog Light Stalk Switch?

Hey guys,

Looking into getting some factory fogs, but I have a quick question. Do I have to get a stalk with the switch or can I get a Toyota Switch and put it in a blank and wire it up? I can't find any schematics or any threads that have a similar question to mine.

70 bucks is a lot of money just to gain a factory switch, especially when im already dishing out some dough for the fogs. I wouldn't mind putting a Toyota Rocker Switch in a blank spot, but I just want to make sure its possible to wire up. Obviously with me getting factory fogs, I'm going to use my factory plugs by the bumper.

I tried to explain this the best I can, hopefully this makes sense because I feel like I'm not. Haha.

I have a 1999 and at one point explored getting the factory stalk for the fogs - way too much $$$ for it though. Some have had luck pulling it from a yard (if you have one nearby). I did find a set of instructions on yotatech (can't find the link right now - I believe I have them at home) about how to use a factory switch in place of the stalk. They include which wires to tap, etc. I will see if I can dig them up later today.

I haven't done a fog light install yet. However I would imagine that by using this switch, you won't even have to fool with wires from the stalk.

As the picture states:

One terminal gets 12v feed from the fuse box (I recommend 12V with key on)
One terminal goes to ground
One terminal goes to the relay for the fog lights

The typical 4 terminal relay will get 12V, Ground, the wire from the rocker, and a wire to the fogs.

I hope my memory is right, lol
 
The only reason I would mess around with the factory wiring is because the factory fogs would plug right in to the plugs Toyota left taped up by my turn signals that are for fog lights.

If normal (not factory) Micro DE's would mount to the bumper easily, I wouldn't mess around with any of this, but it looks like from looking under the bumper there isn't anywhere close to mount the DE's to, which makes sense as to why you practically need factory fogs and mounts to be able to use the slots in the bumper next to the turn signals.

I would be worried about switch blanks, but I don't plan on modding too heavily (yet) so for now this should please me. Haha. :jump:
