Alternator replacement fail

I found my alternator wasn't charging on my way to work yesterday, so I ordered one in for today. My alternators been acting week since I got my 99 a few months ago, lights dim and heater fan slow on idle, fast/bright on revving.

I took the old one out this afternoon after a few hours sleep for night shift. I found the connection was corroded to death and the bolt was glowing red while running. The new alternator wouldn't fit in the bracket for the top bolt. So I just cleaned the connection and put the old one back in. The new alternator appears to be the right one, but the bracket is slightly different, missing a small groove on the face meeting the bracket. It starts to go in but doesn't. The old one slides right in.

Is that normal for a new alternator to be so dam snug? I could fit it in if I filed the bracket face just a bit, but I'm just going to return it and keep running the old one since I know it will get me to work and back.

Back to catch a couple hours sleep before work again...

If the new alternator isn't going in right, chances are it's the wrong one.

They should just slide right in, same as the old one did.

Ditch the stock alternator and run this one. Better for lights, winches, and subs.

I'll be doing that soon to prepare for my winch, lights and upgraded stereo system, at which time I will also finally install my upgraded "Big 3" ground wires and 150 amp fuse

I had to work my new one in as it was just a little tight. After a couple minutes working it i got it in.
