Alternator terminal B nut stuck

Trying to remove the alternator but cant get that terminal nut off without feeling like I'm going to twist the whole thing off. It's not corroded it's just very tight on there. There's nothing really to grab with pliers to counter the force. Cant use heat because of the plastic. Got a little bit of PB blaster soaking in right now but is there any minimally-destructive trick to this? Try soldering iron to heat it? Nut splitter?

Try tightening it then loosening. If that doesn't work take a socket 2-3mm smaller than the nut, put the socket over the nut and give it a few smacks with a hammer. Vibration can help loosen things up. If you can get a wrench on it to turn while hitting the socket it would be ideal.

There was no room for a hammer but I did try my 1/4" impact driver which no luck. With a bit of patience I was able to find a angle to get a good grip on the sides of the wire connection with some channel locks to stop it turning and the nut came off easy. Over-thinking things usual.
 
A 6pt 10mm socket will get those off. They arent stripped. What are you trying to use to remove the nuts? Please don't cut anything off. Clean them up, replace the nuts if needed. Cutting off the terminals will lead to bigger problems later. If you're afraid of screwing it up ask a friend with more experience or take it to a shop.

Sorry I forgot to update this thread. I was overthinking things as usual and with some patience found an angle for channellocks to hold the side of the wire crimp and the nut came loose easy. The problem turned out to be the insulator nut underneath was loose and the terminal nut was too tight. Fixed now.

Installing new Brush kit? I m at 220 K miles and recently installed Toyota OEM brush kit.
That's the average as mostly brushes last 180k to 240k. I am just curious were your bushes completely gone or just a little left?

Mine is about 250k miles and this is how much was left. It didn't look like the alternator was touched before. The manual said 1.5mm minimum I think and there was more than that left. Meant to do it much sooner but never got around it.

Nice. You had a little left at 250k. Mine never lasted that long. The average I observed here is 180 to 240k. :)

Yeah I love this 3rd gen. Feels like it's almost resentful of maintenance know what I mean.

The interesting thing is my 2011 is on it's 3rd alternator at less miles. I don't know happened to the first one but previous owner had replaced it with a cheapo Chinese one which failed and I replaced with a Denso reman. That's the only thing I've had to deal with on it so far.
 
Mine had about the same amount left at 220K miles. When brushes wear out, get it replaced. Loose ground battery terminal can kill the rectifiers so check the ground wire time to time. Other than that, nothing else to worry about.
 
I put a OEM brush set in the Alt on the exes 97 LimitedPuppy Hauler and last year the brushes wore out. Or, I’ll say the Alt needed a wack to start charging again. I don’t wrench on it anymore and she had the garage she goes to replace the Alt. So no failure analysis on how worn down the brushes were.
