Am I crazy?

So, we purchased our '07 V6 a few months back, and it's about time for it's first oil change with us as the owner. I'm thinking of giving this a go on my own. I've never done an oil change before, but found a good thread with pictures and good input (and everyone saying this is the easiest oil change they have ever done).

Am I crazy for trying this on my own with no prior experience? We have 69K on the car and was going to put in Mobil 1 synthetic (the previous owner used conventional, so this would be a change). I was also going to stop by the dealer to pick up the oil filter and crush washer.

Any reason I shouldn't give this a go on my own?

I think it would be crazy not to do it yourself! it's very easy, and you know exactly what's going in and out of your rig.

Do it yourself. Not crazy at all, the hardest part is getting rid of the old oil and clean up.

You can do it! Toyota couldn't have made the filter change any easier! You will lose a little oil out of the filter into the handy catch-basin, but there is a drain hole and it should have a rubber cap on the nipple that you'll see on the bottom side. I drain mine and clean that catch-basin so that I don't get dirt build-up in there. Definitely a good idea to use the factory filter and a fresh washer. Most auto parts stores can take your old oil. Just take your time and be tidy!

I dont trust the dealership for anything!!! do it yourself its super easy!
Just make sure you check your headlight fluid pressure too! LOLOLOL

actually i rescind part of my last comment, There are good decent dealerships out there, I just dont know of any by me. Im in New York on Long Island and every time I've had to go to the dealer they tried to screw me.
BUUUUT! When I lived in Arizona, the dealership I went to was great! It was new, it had drive through service, shuttle service, AND if you got maintenance (oil) done by them they ran your car through the wash!! Not a big deal, but i continued to use their service because they were good to their customers...

Go for it, it's not hard to do. Just a little advice, when you remove the old Oil Filter make sure the rubber oil filter gasket ("O" ring) is also removed. And before installing the new Oil Filter, put a light coating of oil on the new oil filter gasket.

I agree with all the others. I just changed mine for the first time this past weekend. I have changed the oil in my vehicles for the past 10+ years and I will say, without a doubt, this was the easiest by far! One thing I did that worked well to catch the oil that leaked out of the old filter that I was changing was to use an old empty oil bottle & sit it under the drain hole of the catch-basin to catch any oil that spilled from the old filter as I removed it. It worked perfectly.

You are not crazy. The oil service on a V6 is probably the easiest I have ever done on any vehicle.
