Am I getting the run around - audio install

So this is what I’ve currently purchased and have ready for install
-taco tunes recurve
- taco tunes 5 channel amp
75 watts x 4 (Front/Rear Door Speakers) (4 Ohm 125 watts x 4 (Front / Rear Door Speakers) (2 Ohm) NOT recommended without sound processor.
Subwoofer Output
350 watts x 1 Subwoofer Output (2 Ohm)
200 watts x 1 Subwoofer Output (4 Ohm)
- image dynamics ctx component for dash speakers and front doors 4ohm
-kicker 43cs 4ohm for rear doors and hatch

Sub to be: JL 8w3

Audio shop said $350 for all my gear installed. He said that it’s going to be under powered with this amp and recommended his setup for $600 installed - 1 4channel hifonics amp and 1 monoblock hifonics amp.

Am I getting the run around or will my amp be adequate? I am not trying to shake down the block. Just increase the current quality of music. I don’t want to overpay for something I don’t need. Thanks!

Forgive me if I'm wrong but my understand is that you should make sure you get 75% of speakers peak wattage to figure out the minimum you should supply.

I'm not sure which model Kicker you are getting but looks like most are around 100W peak. So 70W peak per channel is required. I don't know how much speakers we got honestly (I'm rolling with the stock ones) but at x4 that would be about 280W needed.

I could be completely wrong so might want to get a second opinion.
 
Me personally I wouldn’t go with Hifonics. They tend to over inflate their numbers but when tested the numbers that their amps supposedly make are nowhere near it.

As far as the TacoTunes, I’m not too familiar with it but it should be better than the Hifonics.

if it were me, i go to a completely different audio shop, i would just invest my money on a nice powerful amp and nice set of front speakers only.

do the fronts first, have a good amp from a good company, and make sure the doors is sound deadened, then you can upgrade the rears later.
also for sub choice, the 8inch w3 is fine, ported enclosure for that is pretty good sounding.
 
Only problem is i already have what I currently have. Not really looking to spend much more at this point
 
It will be wonder if an aftermarket cold air intake method could be installed into the Toyota 4Runner engine, also if a turbo and intercooler could also be installed thanks.

The amp will definitely be enough for just the fronts. Should I amp all sets? I feel like using the taco tunes amp will be fine. That way I can use the difference for the sub and come out even of what I would be spending.



Any other thoughts?

I know it’s kinda late now but you should be fine using the radio’s stock amp for your rear speakers. Those are just filler anyways. I would put the aftermarket amp’s power to your IDs. The IDs are nice speakers compared to the Kickers.

As far as the sub goes, how much wattage are you getting from the 5 channel again? Me personally I prefer a separate and dedicated amp for the sub so the sub gets that power to itself. Again that’s just my preference.

They called me and are saying they are having issues with the recurve ezq..... This is my worst nightmare. Not sure whats happening. Waiting for them to call me back
 
are you installing this is factory head unit?

looks like a cheaper version of the audio control eqs
i have not heard anything bad from users that used audio control, now a days, everyone is using DSP beacuse you can do it better.

Yes factory unit.

Picked it up yesterday. Everything sounds great and very happy but a couple qualms

- I am having a static pop when I turn on the car from the speakers. If i turn on car totally its a bit louder than just turning the key part way to turn on the electronics. Thoughts?

-Having a slight wine through what appears to be the dash speakers that increase when I accelerate/RPMs increase.

Any help? I am going to take it in for them to look at later this week.

I appreciate any help. It sounds great but the above is really killing my vibe here especially paying $500 for an install.
 
the gains are not set right on both amp and the line out converter.


make sure the radio is self is on all flat, you are now using the eq on the line out converter to do all signal processing.

gain on amp should be set at the minimal, usually when i did this type of install, the amp gain is never turned up, i just set everything up on the line out converter. but i also have a smd dd-1 which helps me do all the signal settings.
 
So they got rid of most of the alternator whine. However they said there was nothing they could do about the static when turning the car on.

Basically they said it was the processor turning on and it had nothing to do with wiring. Kind of bummed. IÂ’ve spent a good bit of money so far and feel like I got jipped.

Thoughts or comments? Ripping everything out and going the OEM audio route seems like best bet but IÂ’d basically be flushing $1000 down the drain at this point.

I wanted to use this money to put in leather seats, not replace an already nice system.

first of all what brand of RCA wires used?
second i would turn the amp gains all the way down on the amp, and reset the gains on the EQ. first if you can fix that, dont swap anything yet.
 
I’m not positive. Whatever the shop put in or whatever the taco tunes came with.

I’m a noob when it comes to car audio. I just pay people to install typically.

I wouldn’t know where to start on adjusting the gains and what not. Should I take it to another shop and see if I can bargain? I need a sub still so maybe if I purchase one at another shop they will take a look for me?

it gives a general idea, i would read the manual, its similar to the audiocontrol stuff.

take it to another shop, i personally would call around, the good ones that deal with jl audio, focal, alpine, pioneer, kenwood, hertz, audison, and so much more of the better brands, maybe make a drive to soundman car audio and have him to a video for his series.

the shop that try to sell you the hifonics stuff, i would stay away.

if they cant fix it, it may be a problem with the line out converter, then you need to send it to tacotunes for an exchange.

quality wires matters. cheap rca will make noise, pretty sure you can snag a pic of the install.
 
On the off chance its the processor/EZQ - what would be a replacement Audiocontrol LC7i 6? If it is the processor, then I would rather not deal with TacoTunes to be honest. I would rather just replace it and eat the cost unfortunately. What pics should I take so I can post?

There is a high end audio shop that I passed on because he quoted me in the ballpark of $850 for install. Lowest grade they sell there is rockford. He was always pushing Audison on me and I am just not looking to spend that kind of money.

Edit: any ideas on how to get the high end shop to take this seriously? I want to get it fixed but I mean I’m not wanting to pay their hourly rate($115) for them to work 5hrs just for nothing to work and say they can’t do it either. I just want to know what I’m going to be looking at money wise upfront or at least a ballpark range. I’d be totally fine buying their stuff as well. I just don’t want to be taken advantage off

read the install manual, its the same as what you got installed.

rockford is good stuff, amp and certain subs. now audison is something else, the voce line is way better than what you bought. prima line is a little bit better for the oem upgrade.. now the thesis is going to hurt your pockets even more.

just post some pics of the taco tune install, atleast the knobs and rca wires. it cost them time to re diagnose previous install from another shop.

im trying to help you, you didnt list your car info and if you have jbl or not, hard to give the right info, but im giving you the general info you want to hear. if the old install had some cheap wires, its going to cause noise, if the gains not set right, itll cause noise, if the grounding on the amps and eq is bad, itll cause noise.
