Am I the only person here with a 03+ 4Runner limited with NO sunroof?

Every last limited we looked at that was at the dealerships had a sunroof. We weren't opposed to it but it was a thousand extra bucks, a substantial decrease in headroom, added one more part to break, and one more potential source of rattles and wind noise in the future.

We ended up ordering ours from a wholesale dealer and since it was special ordered we just didn't check off the sunroof box.

In addition to my observations at the dealership, I make a habit of looking at 03+ 4Runner limiteds to see if I can find one without a sunroof and I still have yet to notice one!

I know Toyota and Lexus both have a habit of ordering only a very limited number of configurations and often times a particular model just doesn't come without a particular option unless you custom order it without it. BUT I don't know if the sunroof is in fact one of those options, and I also know that those 'standard' options will vary by region, too.

We do have X-reas, JBL, and side airbags, though.

You're probably just kidding but as I said we ordered it without the sunroof. We didn't pay for it. Saved us almost a thousand bucks.

I remember that going from 04 to 05 model year the color of the roof rack that WAS used on the base model became the color used on the limited too. I don't remember exactly how it went but I'm 99.9% sure that at least for 2005 4Runners, the limiteds come with a black roof rack. As best as I can tell it's a powder coated steel - almost impossible to scratch.

It was definitely an option for 2005, but the question is, was it an option that was impossible to go without if you bought a limited on the lot from the dealer?

That's so true. The headroom difference is noticeable. I have no sunroof and don't miss the option either. One less thing to worry about breaking. Of all the past cars I've owned with sunroofs I never really opened/used them. Majority of the time I drive I have all the windows closed and the hvac set to "AUTO". Probably also has to do with the fact that I have 3rd row seats as from what I have observed they don't come with sunroofs anyway (my region at least). Makes washing and waxing easier too.

Damn, I'd have paid extra to get mine without the sunroof!! With all the posts regarding sunroofs that rattle and sunroofs that hang up halfway open/closed, consider yourself fortunate to have gotten a 4RNR without one!!

I have one in my 06 and the past 5 vehicles ( all american vehicles ) knock wood , never had a problem. Personally I like it to let sunlight in but rarely open it .

In the next one I could take it or leave it , but it seems like it would be good for resale.

Yes, it makes a big headroom difference and for those (i'm one of them) that need headroom choose a 4Runner w/o moonroof.

BTW, ur 4Runner looks like it's never being used. My basis is that the undercarriage (by looking at ur front right wheel well) is sooo clean, like you just took it out of the dealership! nice maintenance! :bigok: :beer:

Silver roof rack and running boards were only on 2003 models, possibly early 2004.

Moonroof is a $900 option on mine. It's possible that there aren't any Limiteds ordered by regional distributors without the moonroof as a regular configuration.

rx900, good observation - I do try keep my cars very clean and used to detail cars on the side when I was younger, too... but I must admit the reason it's so clean in that shot is because that picture was from just over 2 years ago - the 4runner had no more than 50 miles on it at that point.

It has about 18000 on it now and as I type this is probably disgustingly dirty as the last time it was washed (and zaino'd) was a little over a month ago, and it was raining cats and dogs this morning on my wife's way to work.

I would still prefer to have one. Headroom has not even close to be a problem and I'm 6'1".

If I ordered a new one today I would still get the Moonroof. I spoke to soon about not using it , yesterday was a beautiful 65 degree fall sunny day and had it open most of the day.

Why would I want to spend 900 bucks additional for a hole in the roof that my wife would never ever open?
I'd effectively be paying 900 bucks for a reduction in head room and for just one more thing to possibly break/rattle/wind noise/etc.
Same reason we didn't bother with 4 wheel drive. It might get shifted into 4x4 where we live about once a year and even then if I can't make it in 2WD I shouldn't be driving anyway because come time to stop or turn I'm screwed no matter how many wheels are powered.

I'm 6'2" and my head doesn't come close to the roof without the sunroof. I don't know if it would come close with the sunroof but it's just one less thing for me to potentially be bothered with, and one less thing for taller friends of mine to be bothered with. (I have a couple of friends that are much taller than me... one is 6'5" and one is 6'8" though I wonder if he could even fit comfortably in our non-sunroof 4runner as he has yet to ride with us anywhere in it).

Now I rarely drive the 4runner... I drive an 06 Audi A4 - used to have a Lexus GS400. I use my sunroof constantly so yeah my cars will always have sunroofs if possible.

well, I'm like that also. I've been brainwashed by my dad about keeping the undercarriage clean, but in short, I don't think I'll use my 4R in rain for at least until it's a year old. Heck, that's what happened to the GX. If anyone looks at the undercarriage of my GX, you'd say that it's only been thru rain (with wet roads) about a several times only.

Well I'm 6'1" tall and I almost didn't get a T4R because of the somewhat limited headroom.

The problem was that I really WANTED a sunroof. I had never owned a vehicle with one and it seemed to add a touch of class to the 4Runner.

I finally decided to get one with a sunroof and I couldn't be happier!

It was worth every penny! Even when i don't fully open it I can still either tilt it alittle or better yet, just open the sunshade and let the light fill the cabin.



With both the sunroof and rear window open, my T4R almost feels like a convertible!

ALL of the Limited models came with Sunroofs, rear spoilers, color keyed running boards\roof racks, and the dash is a little different. Post your interior shots including the guage cluster. We will be able to tell you quick.
