Amazing Dana 60 SAS FJ cruiser I found on CL what are your thoughts?

So I have been thinking about buying a new rig to beat on more intensely at the rubicon, I'm wanting to get an older FJ or older tacoma and SAS it. When looking for late 60's early 70's FJ's I found this fully built 2008 FJ the build blew me away,

somebody put a ton of work into this truck the crazy thing is it's a salvage title so technically it's a total loss and not worth anything on paper. But Dana 70 in the rear really this thing could do the rubicon at night in reverse. What are you thoughts I've never even seen a SAS FJ so I was pretty surprised. I kind think this guys is out of his mind asking 20k for a salvage title. But just thought I'd share what do you guys think about the truck. it might be worth 15k in just parts.

that would be a hell of a deal if it was done right , especially if he lowered the price down some, blue book on a fair condition stock FJ is $20,480................... ps. I just read the CL in more detail, it has a salvage title so who knows if thats a good price now ?

Amazing FJ. But $20,000 for salvage title and 2nd owner, good luck. I bet he will be lucky to get $12,000 for it.
An SAS FJ would be sweet though. I bet it's a beast off road.

from the parts list, the thing appears to be badass and looks to be done right, but the fact is never buy a salvage title, it was a total loss at some point it's just not worth it. The axles and sas swap all the money that cost is mind is blown somebody put that into a salvage title rig, I bet the frame was damaged or something regardless I think it's a dope build to bad it wasn't clean title never seen 40's on 2006 up 4runner tundra or FJ. its a shame it's salvaged Im going to call today and offer him 8 grand. to bad it's salvaged lol I want to wheel it though lol...what do you think he will eventually sell it for Im going to stay tuned:clap2::happens:

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it was sas'd because it was totalled. Owner probably got the insurance check and put it into the vehicle for upgrades.

What's funny is that his nearly 30 year old 4runner will only appreciate in value, at this point the FJ will only lose value.

With that FJ having a salvage title, he's better off parting it out. He's not going to get anywhere near what he wants.

thats why Im going to call him everyday and offer him 5grand for the axles and suspension so I can SAS and flatbed a 98 4door tacoma we got sitting in the yard that we lien sales for 800 bucks . If this guy gets someone to buy that FJ for 20k he will hold the title of craigslist king....I know you guys love the 1st gens but they are a dime a dozen over her in california and I can literally go pick one up for 1200 bucks right now runs and drives. I was actually contemplating listing them on here for 5k each my friend has two sitting at his yard he wants 2500 for the both of them run drives, just bone stock 86 and 87, he owns three tow yards and those trucks are really popular out here. It kinda blew my mind how much people were trying to sell them for when I joined the site i believe I saw one in the classifieds for like 6grand

I always find it amusing that someone dumps 20 grand into a vehicle and thinks that it raises the value of it by that much. 5 grand in parts and 15 grand in labor hardly raises the value of a vehicle.

FWIW: That front axle is worth a pretty penny but hardly the value of KidV's 85 runner. My guess, the front axle is worth about $1,500 TOPS! You can find re-geared dana 60's (as a pair) all day long for a grand of less.

I also find it interesting that he went through the expense on linking the front and short changing the rear with leaf springs. He also beefs up the rear axle with chromo shafts when the axle is already a D70 but then he goes cheap up front and leaves the stock axle shafts in the D60. If anything, upgrade the front axle where it's going to take more abuse than the rear.

I'm sure it's a capable rig but I don't see the logic in the assembly.

I sold my 87 and got 5 grand for it. I sold the soft top separate from the 4runner and sold the rig for $4500. Now take a good condition 85 that is more rare than the 86-89 4runners then you're only adding value.

I can also find running 86-89 4runners here in CO all day long for $1,500. The fact that it runs isn't what adds the value to these 1st gens. There's more than an engine that makes them worth what some of them get.

all the ones I see are factory straight axles 5 speed with 22re and anything in CO is rusted to shit from the snow/salt btw

I called the guy he didn't build it he bought it as is a year and half ago :lmao: and he has no clue whats on it, he was reading me a parts list, from receipts for all the parts he got from a prior owner. He said that the axles were purchased new. someone dumb enough to straight axles a salvaged vehicle probably is dumb enough to buy brand new axles off the dana website....and I was talking new retail not some dana 60's from the wrecking yard ...now if someone did this to a clean title FJ with 39k miles you'd be all on there nuts keep it 100%:fishing::uzi::rant::flamewar::toilet3:

this is to true, in california we have so many pot growers that make 100K plus a year they got more money then brains and piss away their money on the dumbest stuff. Plus you have all these rich people out here with more money then brains and could care less what they buy. It's sad if you want to scam someone start looking in california. The crazy thing is here in sacramento we have so many salvage yards, and so many russians they put these cars back together daily and sell them on craigslist as if they were clean title, half the people don't know what they are buying until someone explains what a salvage title is....shits crazy go sacramento craigslist and search honda tell me if you can find a clean title lol
