American flag flown at half staff?

I didn't say thank you for anything actually. What should I be thanking you for? If you served in the military then that's fantastic, thank you. But you CHOSE to be in the military just as I CHOSE to be a firefighter and protect lives. So why should one be honored and the other not be?

Your profile says you work in sales correct? Im not knocking your job but until you walk a mile in my shoes, or a police officers shoes etc you can't dictate when or when not to fly the flag in honor of one of my fallen brother or sisters deaths. Every morning before work I kiss my wife and daughter goodbye not knowing if I'll return home the next morning after a 24 hour shift. And here you sit in your air conditioned office and say "I'm not ok with flying a flag in honor of a fire fighters death..."

I dont know where to start, but, you say I chose, to be in the military (Army Infantry) CORRECT, just as you, chose to be firefighter.

You say some BS about "walking a mile in your shoes" well you dont know me, you have no idea what Ive done, what I do. I have been a "volunteer" firefighter, so I have, walked a mile in your shoes, again, you dont know what you are talking about. I do know that the men and women that worked with, DO NOT any recognition, let alone the flag at half staff for them, the people I work with did not do the job for the glory, heck they didnt even have a firefighter sticker on their truck lol

And yes, you can dictate when and how the American flag is flown, there are rules, law and etiquette about flaying the American flag, just google it.

Again, because of men and women in our military, our Vets, YOU have the right to "think" you know about me and can talk smack, voice your opinions, you have the right to "chose" what you, do for a living, just remember, I HAVE, walked in your shoes.

I understand there is etiquette, rules etc concerning the flag. I've been part of a color guard and i'm an eagle scout.

Maybe I need to dumb what I was saying down some since you obviously didnt understand..... When I said YOU can't dictate when to fly said flag I meant you as an individual. And no you HAVEN'T walked a mile in my shoes because I made this my career. You were a volunteer, which is awesome nonetheless, it is slightly different.

I never talked smack on you, I just said your opinion was an unfounded and insensitive one. Your opinion conveys that someone serving our great country on our shores whether it be protecting your family and your property at all costs isn't worthy of some due respect. And that is a flat out insult to me and my fellow firefighters especially since we lost one of our own 2 years ago locally.

I think you are one of a very small percentage of people here that thinks this way. Some of the other forum members have said a flag should be flown for every person who dies in the line of duty here or abroad.
