Americas Tires --$ for new AT20's

So I called Americas Tire on Arden in Sacramento. They said they would be glad to give me $40-$50. for the Dunlops per tire as a trade in for the Goodyear Fortera TT or the Bridgestone Revo bringing the total cost to $721.00 for the GY set M-B and a 60K warranty on the Goodyear Fortera Triple Tred. Nice of them I thought.

I traded all 5 of mine in on 265/70/17's Revos and the gave me $50 each for them . My tires only had 50 miles on them . Basically went home from the dealer at night and to the tire shop in the AM.

Damn, back when i upgraded I asked that same store on arden and they wanted nothing to do with them. Those bas****s...good for you tho.

Yes , mainly because I was upsizing my tires and have full time 4wd so I didn't want to run a spare tire smaller than the rest of them.

I tried to get my factory tires off as soon as possible so as to get the most $$ for them. I was able to do so within the first tank of gas. The tire shop I purchased the Revos from considered buying them back but the 300 miles I had on them was too much. They had to look brand new as I guess they were going to sell them as such. Turns out I was better off, I got $375 or $75/tire for all 5 tires on Craigslist. Not a bad deal as you have to realize that the purchaser needs to pay to have them mounted and balanced and is not getting any warranty or anything.

I called 30 tire shops before taking delivery of my 4Runner. Most had no interest in taking the Dunlops in on trade- even though they were essentially brand new. A handful were willing to give me $30/tire. I finally found a place that gave me full retail on the Dunlops (~$100/ea) in trade, so long as they had <50 miles on them. The only catch was that I had to pay full retail on the tires I bought from him. For a new set of 5 Firestone Destination A/T's, I was out the door less than $250, including mount+balancing.

Moral of the story, call around! You stand the best chance of getting a deal if you can find a shop that sells Dunlops AND the brand of tire you want to install.
