is it normal ??

For a lot of 4Runners, yes. I haven't noticed any bad odor in mine other than the normal exhaust smell when the back window is down.

I don't know if Canada has a TSB on the catalytic converters.

this is "normal" but annoying as he!!. I had the TSB done and they only replace one cat, didnt put a new heatshield on and the smell is still there.

I think im going to get a side-exit cat-back eventually. If you want straight pipes, you either have to replace the cats yourself or hound the dealership for the TSB until it goes away (if CA accepts the TSB).

I'll be attempting to have them do the TSB again shortly as its summer and I want my rear window down on the highway!

Sorry guys but what is the meaning of TSB ??

may be an innocent question, but I am a french Canadian.

Is there TSB for exhaust on 2008 4Runner?

it amazes me how mant dealers & such claim to not know what catalytic smell is.

Indeed! I have asked two different guys at my dealer about this and both looked at me like was crazy, and spent no effort investigating. Is there already a 'TSB' for this? The fact that it happens almost all the time if the back window is down while driving seems pretty flawed. I get it even at low speeds. Also, there seems to be another thread on this (without resolution).
